Wow, this thread has me bummed . . . My son wants badly to see this movie because he and his sister both absolutely adore the cartoon.  When I had first heard about the movie I was hoping they had done it "Lord of the Rings"-style and done about a 6 hour movie they would show in installments . . . instead it sounds like they tried to cram it all in to one relatively short movie.  Too bad.

I hope in a few years some better film maker decides to do it correctly.  I've not seen all of the cartoon, but what I've seen has some endearing qualities.  It's a shame it wasn't given justice.

We too have seen all the toons.  Marathon weekend and DVR, nuff said.  I'm sure at least one of my kids will go see the movie.  After reading the reviews, I don't think I'll waste money for the wife and I to go.

It'll be on PPV soon enough.

Your comment reminds me of the Eragon movie. The screwed up big time on that one; the damn dragon had FEATHERS for gods sake. They also rushed the plot IMO. I hope someone with talent re-does that one as well.

Agreed. Also, I would hope the main character (Eragon? It's been awhile.) doesn't look like a whiny little brat.

Hell, I'd never read the books and thought it was a steaming pile of dragon turd. The only thing of redeeming value was the hot redhead elf chick, who was totally wasted on this crapfest.

Well ok, watching Jeremy Irons be Jeremy Irons was an added bonus. At least Rachel Weisz didn't waste her hotness and just contributed some poorly-written deadpan dialog.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

I had read the books, and couldn't stand that movie at all.  I really like Irons too, but damn.  That one was a major screwup, IMO.  The books are not too bad at all however, he gets better at writing them and flushing out the world as he gets older, it's interesting to see the progression as the writer matures.

I'll probably see the airbender flick, but I'll wait till it hits the dollar movies, that's the cheapest way.  Shame they had to mess it up the way they apparently have, I really like the series.

I'm still surprised about how disappointed people were.

They had M. Night Shyamalan make a live action version of a pseudo-anime that was aired on Nickelodeon. Exactly what part of that sentence sounds good? :headscratch:

Well, the word anime is sounds pretty good...

It's not real anime, but still a pretty entertaining show. The girlfriend's kid watches it all the time, and that means that I see it a lot too.  It kinda grew on me.

What I like is how they have the Avatar (I have no idea how you spell his name), hitting on the water bender (don't know how her name is spelled either  :D). Its kind of funny to watch his screw ups.
