howdy here is my puter specs:

p3@700
128ram
Vodoo5 5500 pci

Was wondering...i get get fps<30-80> but on occasion i get jerks in the refresh rate?

For example: when i roll i might get 1 or 2 "jerks" before i am done.  When i look at my fps counter it says that i am 30 or higher, so i cant figure out the problem.

This happens when i am not in crowds or smoke etc.

Things should run smooth at 40 fps..wondering what the deals is...

Thanks

Try removing the connection icon in the taskbar if you use a modem to connect.  There are quite a few posts about this problem.  I think it's: start -> settings -> control panel -> network -> dial up networking -> connection menu up top -> settings -> remove icon from taskbar.

You might also try a hard drive defrag if you haven't done one in a while.  (If so, you better have a free couple hours to let the computer do its thing.)

I have a PIII 800 256 sdram @ 133 mhz. Also a voodoo 5. I get the same thing. Its not the modem thing. Its a voodoo thing. I did see in the FAQ's Pyro mentioning something about voodoo's not working well in 32 bit color. This was posted way before the Voodoo5 was out so I'm not sure it applies to this one. Later

I have the V5 and have NEVER had this problem.  I know folks who do have the problem, but I haven't been able to isolate the problem.  It is not a problem with 32 bit color, I run that color depth.

Do you guys run 2x FSAA?  I do, so maybe try that?

Used to have that problem with my Voodoo5, I don't remember all that I tried, but I did get the problem to go away

Make sure that the two items in the Aces High video setup screen are NOT checked (z-buffer and I forget what the other one is).

The modem icon in the task bar will do it too.

Good news is that by trial and error you can get the stuttering to stop   .

It's sad that 3dfx went outta business.  That leaves us with only one major vid card manuf. with little competition
