Absoutely the best 5.1s but if you are complaining about $83 dont even look at them:

These are the best wireless now that the AKG line is unavailable (wireless that is) but again VERY pricey:

My preference in AH is for standard two speaker headphones (with or without mic since I use a Pro Broadcast mic) like the Heil ProSet Media (about $100) or the Pro Set Plus ($247).

All four of the headsets I mentioned are balanced sets so that you dont even know you have them on. They are just that comfortable and worth every penny.

Hrmm.. I actually have the AK-R8 model... the headset is Identical to the HPA2 except the amplifier box doubles as a USB sound card device.  Anyway, I've had it for over two years now, and not one single problem with the microphone.  Perhaps they just had a bad 'batch' with this possible issue, and you just happened to get one <shrug>.

this is prolly why they renamed the headset to AK-R8
