P-51 climb rate problem
« on: July 27, 2010, 03:27:10 PM »
If you look at actual performance on the aircraft in AH, the climb rates in the game are the same as the actual aircraft under military power.
However the Mustangs initial climb rate in real life is 3475ft per minute with military power. In AH it can only do so under WEP. To me this does not
seem correct.
If someone has info about this that I don't know please speak up, and if this is an issue please help HTC. :headscratch:

A few details would be nice, which model 51?  climb rate at what altitude? What gross weight are we measuring at? How much internal fuel? Is the test craft combat loaded or not? What is the source for 3475ft/min?

These are the sort of details that are needed before any sort of informed discussion can take place about a potential inaccuracy in the modeling.

Ah, come on Soulyss.  Don't let those types of details derail a good, healthy rant about something in game.  Its obvious that the Pony is nerfed and useless--WING47 said so, and I accept his word at face value...

I saw a show on the History Channel that said the P-51D carried 6x 50mm cannons and the Mustang doesn't have that option in game, to me that doesn't seem correct.  HiTech should address this mistake and fix it ASAP!

WING47 the figure you posted is relevant only to the P-51/51A which are not in the game or the P-51H which did not see action. Both the P-51B/C and P-51D climb at a slower rate initially. The P-51B/C and P-51D could only reach that rate without guns or armor loaded so probably you are looking at factory trial data.

Ok, I'll do some more research and try to come up with some better info. But, I'm sceptical because the Hurricane IIC for example under military power climbs at the data I found says it does.

Look WING,

I was being sarcastic, but you should really try to do some research before you post.  Or, simply wording your hunch in the form of a straight question--it can help you appear like you want to learn instead of merely repeating something you saw on Wikipedia.

For example, "I was looking at the climb rates for the P-51D the other day on www.p51fan.com and thought I saw a discrepancy between their posted climb rates and the climb rates of the P-51D in-game.  Can someone help me understand why they are different?"

[edit]  When comparing something out of game, always link your source so that others can take a look at it.

WING47 I used to think something like this about Spitfire mk XIV, my sources told me that it climbed 5000ft/min at military power and in the game it can barely do 4000ft/min. Eventually I discovered that it can do 5000ft/min with about 50% fuel (as far as I remember).
So the example that your saying about P-51 might be with a small amount of fuel as well.
