What are some good setting for us cablemodem folk for gameing, like to get best ping and all. DONT tell me to go to www.xxxxxxx.com  I have been to every sight, I want personl suggestions, what software do you use, what changes from orignal did you make..that kinda stuff.  All web sights say the exact same stuf and have the exact programs that do the exact same thing, i am past that, I wand down and dirty nubers not some proggy that will "increase your downloads by 300%!!!"
tell me what YOU did and how it affected you. If you used a program to set settings what was it, what settings did you put ETC,,, I know im not the only person with theses questions and Im sure many people are missing out cause they have bothered to fart with it.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing.  Yep, absolutely nothing.

It is normally a bad idea to optimize a connection for "download speed" or even ping time.  A game like AH depends on connection quality foremost, and if you tweak your connection for "download speed" sometimes you do so at the expense of quality.

The only thing I would even consider doing is making sure your MTU is set properly.  However, Win98SE automatically adjusts it unlike Win95 used to.  I don't think you have to mess with it.

If it ain't broke, don't screw with it.

NOTHING

I've been gaming with cable for close to 4 years, and the only thing you can influence is download throughput.  You can improve your speeds but you cannot improve your ping.

I've tried all the tweaks, all the registry changes, sacrificed small children to the modem gods.. nothin can improve your ping.

The one thing that i have noticed is that setting your RWIN very high can cause instability on games, most of the time the suggested level for broadband will give you alot of jerkyness and instablilty.

I'd keep this in mind when you are following along guides like http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_registry.shtml

Win98 and above have been optimized for ethernet. 10/100. Now, I dunno about you, but I have a PC that acts as a shared drive for our family on a switch. You will MAJORLY JACK your performance to your shared drives if you start messing with this. To get MAYBE a 5% improvement in Internet throughput.

To explain why would involve me sending you a whitepaper on ethernet driver settings. It would bore you to sleep. Just trust me, the thing that affects AH more than anything is lost packets and latency. HT's code does a damn fine job of adjusting for latency, so worry about lost packets.

I'd rather have my files copy on my shared drive at near-HD speed (as they do now) rather than d/l that file from the net a second faster.

Well, its a generally known fact that optimizing your cable for optimal d/l speed with registry tweaks will hinder game performance. This is specially obvious with Brand-W connections, where as slower = better. I found out that the optimal settings would be tiny packets for AH (horrible d/l speed) and huge packets for the Net. At least test your MTU settings to make sure you get 0% packet loss.. Most commonly adviced 1500 for LAN causes packet loss for me, I droped it to 1440 for a clean pipe.

I have found through EXTENSIVE testing that the best cablemodem settings for gaming are!!
MAX MTU:  800

RWIN:5600

I have tested these setting EXENSIVLY on MW4 AH and Rogue spear.  If ya go much higher than that you can start getting some instablilty
much lower and ya can start getting more latency.

Also with these setting i still DL around 100k a sec or bout 800kbps, so dont worry about the hindering yer DL and brousing,

I used PPP-Boost to set them for convience insted of just editing regestry, I tried about 50 different settings so i wanted to be able to change them quick.
