possible new toy
« on: July 25, 2010, 09:24:27 PM »
Ok I know a lot of people use joysticks with seperate throttle quadrants, former x52 user here.

1st question..is anyone using the saitek flight yoke, and how does it feel compared to a joystick?

The reason why I ask is I have the possibility to get the yoke, throttle quadrant and pro rudder pedals at a decent price, I think. ($349)

Also I know it isn't the correct item for this game but it seems a little bettr than what I have now.

Why not just use this:

It has more buttons than a yoke + quad setup.

I think you can get CH stuff for that or a little less.

Saitek isnt worth that price.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Ok I could be off base here, but I don't believe that I am.

From what I've seen the flight Yokes just do not work as well for fighter combat.
Reversing controls with a joystick from any corner to any other corner really takes no time at all.
The same is not true of a yoke. It just seems to take more time to get the same input.

If most of what you do is flying bomber runs, then by all means get one.

I saw one at the con last year of all the people there.
And I was curious and I did ask him, and he did fly bombers virtually 100% of the time.
And for that its fine, and it probably adds immersion.

At first I didn't understand how one of these could help you fly, but after some research...... I think I may get me one too.

One of my squadmates from Warbirds flew with a yoke.  I don't recall the make, but he did well, and had stated that the yoke helped enforce the fact that you want to make small precise, movements while flying.

IIRC correctly it had only a couple of buttons and no hat switch, so I wasn't interested.

If I hadn't already gone through a couple of Saitek X-(x)2s where the shoddy construction and loopy design (who would ever design a flight controller that takes the most effort to move the smallest amount away from center?) has put me off of the company, I might even consider looking into the yoke they offer in more detail.

But I've owned Saitek controllers before....

for $350 you can get a  brand new set of CH stuff, throttle, fighter stick, and pro pedals. You"ll have a bunch of buttons and hats....more than you will likely use at first. A used set for the same price just doesn't seem right to me.

Also I've been told that the yoke action is slow. Rolling from full left to full right takes longer and in a tight fight it might be the differance between winning and loosing.

Used to use a CH Pro Yoke for fly the P-38 back in AW when I'd play on my breaks when I was still at CH.  Honestly, never had an issue with it flying wise, the foot print however was pretty large.  Main reason why I never used one at home but if I had a desk big enough at the time, I would have kept using it for the little bit of immersion factor with using a yoke to fly the Lightning.

Thank you gentlemen and as soon as I get home I will post a link to the website for the package.

I see the pros and the cons but I need to make the decision.  (Hopefully the right one for me)
