Detonator Tests

Some of you may be interested to see the tests of all the different versions of the Detonator driver packages.

Notice they are all VERY close in speed in real game testing.  Trust me when I say, they are NOT all the same when it comes to stability and compatibility.  :)  I still recommend the following based on stability:

TnT2-GF2 on Win 98/ME:  7.78
TnT2-GF2 on Win2k/XP:  7.58
GF3 on Win98/ME or Win2k/XP:  14.10

I just want to stress that if you try the later non-WHQL drivers, they will only be a tiny bit faster (about 7%) and you will often sacrifice reliability for speed.  However, if you are a tweaker, and you don't mind re-installing drivers/DX/etc. to get a bit faster, these tests might help you squeeze that last bit of performance out of your machine.  The resolution specific charts are really nice!

Thank Lephturn!

I have the 7.58's installed right now, don't really see any difference in FPS or stability "when" I can even get into AH.
Am gonna reinstall the 7.78's and see if I can tell anything different......hard to tell what is happening with my system right now.  Sancho and I stayed on the phone close to 3 hours the other night, trying to figure it out.  Sometimes I get the white screen and a lockup, sometimes I get the white screen and after about 45 seconds I get the clipboard and "online/offline" options.
Regardless, thanks for the tips on drivers....... :D

If you are in Win98 go up to the 7.78's.

I'd also install DX 8.1.  If you are only having trouble with AH, you might want to rip it out and download a fresh copy just in case.  :)

What card/mobo/etc. are you running?

If you do muck with the different drivers, use the link in my sig to get the WHQL ones.  Those are the more stable of the bunch, so they are the best ones to try.

I am running a Celeron 700 oc'd to 872, 256mb PC100 memory, Abit VH6-II mobo, Win98( have the critical updates installed), some generic bellybutton 13Gb hard drive, VisionTek Xtasy 5564 GeForce2 MX400 64mb vid card, have DirectX 8.0 right now, cannot get a complete download of 8.1.
I was telling Sancho, when I click on AH to start it, you can hear the HD running and a LED on the case lights up, then you hit the white screen and the HD stops and the light goes out.  Sometimes it will flicker occasionally and I end up getting to play AH, more often than not, it just stays there locked up, nothing short of hitting the reset button works. (shrugs)
BTW, it does the same thing on all my games, DOA, WB2.77, etc..........white screen of oblivion........ :(

yep, agreed ... i used 7.52 for a while, very stable. read somewhere that 7.78 was also good so installed them. got a fps increase on the runway from low/mid 20's to low 30's !
i might try the 7.97, on Guru3D or Tweakersasylum (forgot which) they got a very good rating.

Lephturn:

Last night I installed a GEForce 2 Ti card in my system. I used the Det. Destroyers and loaded standard vga drivers. Then I installed the Det. 7.78 drivers. Windows then asked me which drivers in the 7.78 package I wanted to install, and if I didnt know the proper drivers would be installed. The first try I clicked GEForce 256 thinking it didn't matter but, when I checked in system under display, the drivers were listed as GEforce 256. Since my card is a gef2 Ti I figured it was the wrong drivers, so I went back into update drivers for display and chose the GEforce Ultra drivers. I had read on some website that the GeF2-ti card is close to the GeForce Ultra card.
I also re-installed DX8.1 soon after that.
My question is: Have I installed the correct drivers from the Det. 7.78 files for my card?

My system specs:

Dell Dimension 4100
933 Mhz P-III
SB Live Value Soundcard
17 inch monitor
GeForce 2-Ti vid card (agp)
Det Drivers 7.78
DX8.1
Windows ME OS
Res: 1024x768  32bit

Thanks
