M4 caliope
« on: July 31, 2010, 11:04:21 AM »
Seems that the main gun was unable to fire until the rocket tubes were jettisoned . Dang thing weighed 4240 lbs fully loaded . Max range 4600 yards , with  3900 yard max effective . When playing with the thing the first day I guesstimated range at 4,000 yards with morfiend in the TA . One aspect of this game I really enjoy is using limited production equipment and finding its strength and weaknesses in a dynamic way . The 4.5 inch version is the same rocket used by the three tube clusters on the P-38J .Thanks HiTech for not giving us the 7.2 inch version . A range of only 230 yards would make it pretty much worthless . One thing that some of the users were looking for was the screaming effect as achieved by the nebelwerfer . A US Col. named Bruss had this to say “the effect was comparable to German Nebelwerfer fire without the siren whistle sound. The accompanying sound of this rocket does not have the desired anti-personnel morale shaking feature.”

There was a field modification to the way the caliope was mounted to the gun which allowed it to be fired.  HTC has it shown graphically that way, they are way ahead of you on this.

Uh oh, they started with field mods. Now every tom, dick, and Helmut Luftwaffe pilot will be screaming for field mods.  :bolt:

The rocket tubes are quite fragile.  I've knocked them off with multiple aircraft and with both cannon fire and MG's.

Froger Ive said this B4, but your Avatar, is so, well disgusiting, I dig it.

Ok back to your normally scheduled thread.
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.
