Another retired NFL player sues EA over Madden
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:59:59 AM »
Tony Davis...a relative unknown player yes I can say that simply because his stats don't lie over his 6 year career...http://armchairgm.wikia.com/Tony_Davis.

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/110/1109826p1.html

I wonder how many guys really give a damn about this? Most if not all of them are former players whose compensation package for when they were playing was great for the time. However it sucks to be the ones that the league was built on while the current players reap the benefits of that hard work...but such is life.

Overall though I think the amount of money gathered by EA and the Madden franchise is pennies compared to what they are looking for in compensation. The beef that some of these former players have is they don't think that EA gave them their proper respect in the game...well Mr. Davis...they showed you to be the almost running back that you thought you were in college.

The suit also says that despite not including the players' names and original uniform numbers in Madden NFL 09, users can still go in and edit the roster to include them.

What are they going to do? Deny people from being able to edit rosters?

what a joke..

Creators of the game wouldn't think twice of suing the players, why should it be different the other way around  :devil.

Their likeness is being hijacked by EA without any compensation.  Would they even think of doing this to an active player?  No.  I hope these ex-players win their lawsuit.

Ack,

I'm ignorant on the subject.  I thought the players received a royalty for the use of their likeness.  Wrong?

The NFL Player's Association is paid a royalty.  I am not sure how much of any of it trickles down to the individual players.

All players get a partial payment even retired ones from the NFLPA. I know this for a fact because I have a few friends that were active NFL players up until a few years ago. Now they still get a percentage for their likeness since they are retired.

All NFL players who are retired can still participate in the NFLPA; IF they choose to do so. Many don't because they are broke from spending it all instead of putting it back for the future. These are the ones that are creating the stink and doing these things now. Just like that other ultra melon that tried suing EA over NCAA college football because he sucked monkey nuts and thought that his likeness and stats were wrong in the game.

Marvel sued NCSoft and Cryptic Studios back in 2004 over players being able to make avatars in City of Heros that could almost copy their characters.

Big difference in my opinion. If you sucked; you should admit it and realize that you still got paid to do what 99% of the old beat up football players would be more than willing to do for free. Given the opportunity I would put the pads on for one more shot at it just to see if I could make it happen.

OR get off your bellybutton and rejoin the NFLPA and get your payment for your "likeness" being in a friggin game.
