This Week in the AvA

SINK THE TIRPITZ

The year is 1944.  The Western Allies' bloody effort to
move supplies to the Soviet Union along the Murmansk
gauntlet is in full swing.  Yet every officer in the
Admiralty, and every seaman and sailor on the ice-
coated ships, still fears the sudden appearance of
Germany's super battleship, "Tirpitz," which can
effortlessly sink an entire convoy if she chooses.
All attempts to sink her have thus far failed.  Now the
carriers HMS Formidable and HMS Emperor, assisted
by long-range Mosquitos and Lancasters, will try again.

ALLIES (BISHOPS)

Land-based:
           Lancaster
           Mosquito
           Spitfire Mark 8

Carrier-based:
Task Group 8:
              F4U-1 Corsair
              SBD-5
              TBM

Task Group 37:
                F6F-5
               SBD-5
               TBM

AXIS (KNIGHTS)

Bf-109G2
Bf-109G6
Bf-110G2
FW-190A5
Ju-88 at rear bases (A53-55, 57-58)

NOTES:

The Tirpitz is represented by the fleet running between
A42 and A43.  There are no planes on the carrier.

All ships are hardened to 125, the same setting as
towers and runways.  You will need to drop 125 1000-lb
bombs on a ship to sink it, and it will regenerate in
approximately one minute.

Many, if not most of the bases, are neutral Knight.  This
is NOT to simulate an actual neutral country, but rather
is to channel the action.  Some of these bases will
probably be changed as the setup progresses and we
learn more.

OTHER SETTINGS:

Radar is historical to 1944:
  Tower: 158,400
  Sector: 343,200
Planes flying under 500 feet will be under the radar's
    coverage.

Strat is disabled
Fuel burn rate is 1.0
Visibility is 12 miles.
Ack settings are .25 for low-level ack.

Soda,
Did you mean to say "125 1000-lb bombs on a ship to sink it" ?  Or, is there a typo?  If it's going to take that many bombs, we may need to drag a nuke outta the storage bunker.   :lol
Looking forward to trying out the new setup.  :salute

Hi there,  been away on a few vacations so unable to attend the AvA,  plus learning the new updates...

Went in there tonight 8PM  to expect to see many squads flying in there like they've advertised in the past.

A ghost town?  No one there.

Anyway it may be good practice, but all those bombs to sink a cv only to have it rebuild in 1 minute is not what I call a good use of my time.   Going back to the main arena until next frame.

Respectfully <S>

Just out of curiosity...why?

I know that the Tirpitz can be sunk, Filth did it with this setup way back when.  The challenge, for bomber folks, is just to be able to do it.  You can't win the war in the AvA anyway, we've thought that being able to sink this boat was quite an accomplishment.

I was on Saturday night, did not see any squads online to even attempt a massive bomber raid on Tirpitz.   Therefore,  a smaller raid on it would only bring more time in-flight   with  less potential damage to sink her,  and surely encountering an enemy upping to kill me and use me as cannon fodder.

I would rather go to the training or MAIN arena and practice cv sinking in that same amount of time that would aid as practice in the  FSO,  AVA saturday events,  Wed scenarios.

That is the meaning of my post of using my time in another arena.
