The problem I have is that almost all of the comedians have gone through different phases, but all eventually wind up as cynical old bastages.

George Carlin was hilarious up until his last couple years.  The cynicism was distracting.
As was Gallagher.
Robin Williams.. his early improv was scary funny..
Even Bill Cosby, one of my all time favorites, has shown some bitterness in his latest years. ( though he speaks good stuff.. just not comedy )

Most of the folks mentioned here have had some great moments, certainly.

Another one I haven't seen mentioned yet:  Bob Newhart, and that whole Carol Burnette troupe.
Of course, the Monty Python group

Spike Jones..

The list could go on.  Can't say I have a favorite.

I mentioned Kevin Hart in my post a little while back, he's great, he really gets me laughing with his facial expressions sometimes.  I don't know the other two you posted, but I'll check them out for sure, thanks.

as far as the art of pure stand-up..and it is an artform.... pound for pound...my favorite is Dennis Miller.

I'm not talking about his appearances on Fox news...or his radio show...or his monday night football stint...I'm talking pure live stand-up. and when Miller is on...he's the best.

conversely..and perhaps for personal reasons.....I also like the other end of the spectrum....and consider Brian Regan on of the best stand-ups in the business as well.

both these guys make me laugh...and I'm a tough audience.

Without a doubt my favorite all time Comedian is Bill Hicks.

My current favorite is Daniel Tosh.

hicks toward the last few years...did what APDrone alluded to above..and in many ways..because a parody of himself. I used to love hicks..especially when he was with the old houston outlaws gang of comics.

Yeah Brian Regan is really good, he does a great idiot character voice.  That bit about the butterfly exhibit worker was great.  I also like Dana Gould pretty well.

All of the above.

The only other one I can think of at the moment is Jon Reep. He does a bit about his dad going to fix the pool by using a backpack full of rocks and a garden hose for air that makes me cry every time.

Many very good comedians have been mentioned in this thread, but I would like to make one correction and an important distinction: Red Skelton was a Clown, not a comedian; he considered himself and conducted himself, as a Clown. Red Skelton was also a talented artist who painted many Clowns upon his easle.

My favorite Clown: Red Skelton

My favorite Comedian: Bill Cosby

My favorite Comedian Team: A tie between Laurel and Hardy and Abbot and Costello.

Comedians who use foul language to shock for laughs need to study the successes of the above.
