gunsights
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:55:08 AM »
I'd like to be able to dim, darken or even change the gunsights in flight. Anyone else?

Isn't there a gamma setting on the sight selection tab?  A slider?

There used to be....

There is, but all gunsite changes and settings must be made from the tower. I'm pretty sure he wants the ability to do this while flying.

I'll give it +1.

It's not the gamma, which changes the lighting within the environment, it's just the gunsight that could use an independent control so it can be darkened or lightened in flight.

Personally, just curious but what benefit is it to be able to adjust the gunsight brightness on the fly while in flight?  I've got my sights as bright as they can be by using the alpha adjustment slider in the gunsight selection screen, I just don't see a reason to be able to do this in flight.

In addition it'd be nice to have a Global Transparency slider for sights.  I normally try to keep my sights really light (barely visible) but sometimes I don't notice until a few minutes into flight I forgot to adjust the slider so an in-flight and global slider would be nice.  That and I don't fly the same plane so I tend to have to adjust them all but forget. :)

I use the P51 gunsight for the reference points for rockets and bombs. But in a dogfight I'd like to have all that cludder out of the way. In the pony it doesn't bother me as I can page up to look over the nose. But in the 38s that can't be done. And the brightness slider seems to go from one extreme to the other when trying to set it in the 38s for some reason.
I guess I could just find another jabo sight for the Lightning. But was thinking the ability to adjust in flight would work too.

Try reproducing your favorite gunsight in single pixel wide white lines. It shows up against everything but into the direct sun. A low number level gaussien blur of 1 or 2 will just remove the saw edges on the circles and angled lines. I have historic gunsights with yellow, orange and red tinted reticles to look like the historic illuminated color. I've made copies for all of them in single pixel white which shows up better in the game and is less distracting.
