Gents,

I am doing some pc swapping and upgrading. I need to know what is the best soundcard out there for ACES HIGH, I am looking more at stability than elaborate dolby digital stuff. I want a card that doesnt hiccup with roger wilco, and I also use TM elite pedals.

I would personally recommend the Sound Blaster Live, Value.

Mine works very well.

I wouldn't recomend the SBLive, the gameport on mine sucks for air.

SB Lives have had some problems.

If you don't have a lot of cash, the SB Live is the way to go. Just make sure you plan what slot it will go in VERY carefully, and ensure it will have it's own IRQ and not be sharing with any other PCI card.

If you are willing to spend a bit more and have the BEST card IMO around right now. Get yourself a Hercules Game Theater XP. External rack and controls, USB ports, all the digital toys. Sweet.

Hi all,
I'm running a Videologic Sonic Fury and Cambridge Soundworks DTT2200 speaker system. Both are 5.1 compatable and no complaints here. Music & DVD's sound fantastic. I can't comment on RW though as I admit I do have problems (But then again I also had problems with my previous setup (SB Live value and 2 speakers + subwoofer).

I checked on that Hercules game Theater XP! WOW!

Ebay has one going now. (Max bid so far $123), with 5 days to go.

I checked pricewatch and seen the XP down around $119. Not too bad.

Would the USB ports in this box be just as stable as USB on a motherboard? I punch my JS into my SB Live and it is OK, but not great.

Leph, could you, if ya have time, check the listing for this Game Theater XP in pricewatch and see if it the same one you are talking about?

Not only would you get incredible sound but you may get an incredible USB hookup also. That alone may be worth the extra price. Right now my USB connections are used up by my scanner and external Roadrunner connection. I have no USB Game controllers yet but sooner or later that seems the best way to go.

The USB connections are the one thing I don't really know about. I haven't seen anybody review their use yet.

The big bonus for me would be that I could disable my internal USB ports that share an IRQ with other things, and use the ones on the Herc. That would solve my IRQ sharing thing that I can't get around as it is.

Dude. You have a USB network connection? That just B-L-O-W-S. Call RR and tell them it is screwing up your USB devices. Ask them for an Ethernet connectable model and a network card. You'll be much better off. Get your network connection off USB and it will work sweet for everything else. Worst they can do is say no.

I'm surprised you don't have some problems playing AH with a USB net connection.

Ooooopss! Sorry I called ya Drex, Leph! I was at work and being secretive. So I wasn't re-reading my post before I hit the post button!

So Sorry!!

Ha! Another mystery solved. They actually left me a network card and told me if I had any problems to install it. I do lose host connection much more since I got RR.

Ethernet connectible model? Can I not just install the network card and connect the cable directly into the card. Will that work? Let me check the HW they left me.

Ha once again I was wrong. No network card.

I'm running off of a SB4100 Surfboard. They left me a Cat 5e Patch cable and a 3 COM Etherlink III card in case I wanted to change over. DUH! I am at a loss!

Would it be better for me to install the card and run the patch cable or call them and ask for the cable network card. Is this 3COM Ethernetcard considered a network card?

So many options, so little knowledge!!

I remember the technician telling me if I had problems to give RR a call and they would come up with another solution.

Sorry for bothering you Leph, but I might have a problem here. Im have not returned to AH yet, but when I do I want to be ready. Thanks for your time and effort here!

Yes that is the network card.

At first I had the same setup as you from rr.

I used the pearcom usb adapter to run my cable into. Absolutely sucked.

So I went out and bought the Network card and installed it myself. It was very easy, and if you have any problems you can call their tech support. They can walk you through it.

But, One additional very important thing you should have rr do (if they haven't already).

If you are loosing Cable Lock alot on your computer, have them come out and intall filters on your TV lines at the splitter. I did that and it solved alot of my problems. It seems that interference from my TV connection side of the splitter was causing my Cable Modem to loose lock.

If you don't have that filter on the splitter, call them and tell them to come out and install one.
