Common thread to folks now having crashes from AH???
« on: August 13, 2010, 10:11:11 AM »
I suspect the most recent Java update may be causing issues for many who are running WIN 7 64bit and Aces High.

I began having the AH app crash Wednesday night. I dug into my system and discovered that a Java update earlier in the week had been flagged in Windows diagnostics. My AH application crashes began after the failed java update. The update was not listed in the add/remove programs list. I did see both 32bit and 64bit Java apps in there. I uninstalled Java at that point. Lo and behold, my AH crashes ceased.
I am not reinstalling Java on my primary machine again. I can't even remember what application I was running that required it.

Hmmm, wonder if ariansworld's DXDIAG reveals that he is also running WIN 7 64 bit?

I have had our Windows 7 64 bit system crash during a regular Windows update, just recently.

I'm going to try and remove Java and see if it works for me.

I'm desperate, I volunteered to lead a scenario group every Saturday this month and to spend time in the TA. So far, I can't do either one effectively with this problem.

It seems all of this started in the last 48 hours, or so.  How many of you allow the Windows auto-updater to run?

A Java update could cause it as the java install replaces serveral operating system files.

The DXDIAG data, for the system and video card would be helpful.

Also note, make sure you have the power settings to "High Performance" in the Windows control panel.

Mine is already set to high performance... I cannot find any Java installation on this machine, I don't remember installing it since I formatted last week.

I checked program list and program files, as well as any directories under IE or Firefox.

I do not think it has anything to do with Java itself.  I think the crash of the installation of Java is another side effect of the real problem.

Still chasing it.

I don't know if this helps any or not, but MS has released a huge batch of updates for XP, Vista AND Seven these last 48 hours.... maybe the updater has something to do with it all...

I know.  I too find it too much of a coinky-dink that a sudden surge of instability issues arise after/during a lot of updates released by Microsoft.

By the way folks, just because you did or do not run the auto-updater does not mean Microsoft did not update some portion of your computer without your knowledge.  They do that from time to time.

However, we are still chasing.
