Direct TV NFL Sunday Ticket
« on: August 12, 2010, 02:34:01 PM »
just a heads up for those of you that buy this every year...

they charged me my fee as they do every year..and apparently it's gone up another $50... now costing $350.00.  I know they made a deal with the NFL for the rights to carry their games, for one billion dollars (yes..I said billion)..but I think a lot of people are quitting the ticket this year..so they are charging the rest of us more.

therefore.

I called them and told them to remove the charge...and adjust my bill..and that I was no longer interested in the sunday ticket.

this morning..I got a call.....and they told me I could have it for $180.00  I said yes.

I highly recommend you call and tell them you will not pay the $350.00 ... I think they are offering this now once you threaten to quit.

I think some of it has to do with the fact that they're now broadcasting all their games in HD instead of making you buy the stupid superfan pack.  It always pi$$ed me off that they'd dumb down the signal to a non HD format unless you gave them more $.

I think its ridiculous to have to pay extra to watch some team like the Rams or Raiders when they don't even fill up their own stadiums.

Agree.   My neighbor keeps a Dish for this Sunday Ticket.  I used to get Center Ice (Canucks fan) or the ESPN Gameplan (Vols fan, but lately I get more out of Collegiate level ball, than the overpaid bums in the NFL).

I've never seen a movie theater offer me a discount if their seats were not filled up.

Local blackouts are a common occurance for teams that can't fill their stadiums.  It's unfortunate for the fans of those teams.

I actually kinda live between tampa bay..and miami..back and forth..and the reason I was thinking about dumping sunday ticket..is that I was going to bring one of my direct tv boxes down to south florida..and use it in our home there...but then this $180 deal came up.  it's a good thing too....because the Bucs (my team) are forecasting game black outs..which means even though I was in miami..I would still not have been able to see the games.

lots of my pals in tampa without the sunday ticket are pissed..as tonight's preseason game is blacked out already.  oddly enough it's against the dolphins.

You think that's bad, before the owner of the Chicago Blackhawks died like 3 years ago the only way to see a Hawks home game was to actually go see them live, or go to a bar that had a dish and picked up the opposing teams home feed, no matter if it was a sell out or not he wouldn't allow there home games to air here in Chicago, which was probably the dumbest move he could of ever made with the team, since he died and his kid took over and reversed that stupid rule the Hawks fan base has increased big time, they regularly sell out home games now and have set attendance records the last few years.

Wow, that's terrible for local hockey fans.  Was he just trying to increase attendance?

Yeah I think that was his logic behind doing it, that he thought if you had no way to see a Blackhawks home game on T.V that more people would be incline to buy tickets to the home games, but all it did was hurt the team because when almost no one is seeing there home games your not gonna have as big a fan base in the city, I think this was only the 3rd or 4th year since he died and home games where being televised here.

I am dropping COX cable and getting Direct TV with the NFL package, the promotional first time customers bill will be 59.99 for the first 5 months then you pay your usual satellite service package price.  I suppose I will find out next year what the cost will be for the NFL package.

I've never seen a movie theater offer me a discount if their seats were not filled up.

I have its called Redbox or Blockbuster kiosk...those movies are usually there within 2-3 months and I only have to pay $1 compared to $7+ per ticket for a kids over 3 for a "matinee" and I get to drink liquor or beer and eat pizza with my movie that I didn't have to eat before or after the movie depending on who went with me and if she was hungry or not. Anyway that is off topic. I just don't think these types of packages will last much longer...could be just me but disposable income isn't going to keep happening for them the way it was a few years ago.
