power supply question
« on: June 10, 2001, 11:10:00 PM »
Hi,

I have emonster500 and I'm looking to upgrade the power supply from 150 watts to 300 watts and I don't know if this product I found will work with the computer:
 http://www.amatteroffax.com/Item.asp?INVID=6522

I don't want to try the trial-n-errors method with this one so i would appreciate any informations from someone here with a strong computer knowledge.

Ask me which computer spec you need to know and I'll post them.

thanks!

Cheetah6

ps this is related to ace high. I'm having problem with the new geforce2 mx and ace high lock up within few minutes of playing. (as do some other directx games/screensaver)

OK, first of all I assume that you motherboard is an ATX one (different connector from that fo AT format) hence you need an ATX power source.

Secondly, most of PSUs available come in the same size boxes so, unless you puter has got a slim box/proprietary PSU any satndard ATX PSU should fit.

And finally - depending on your box/motherboard you might want to check the length of power cables going from the PSU to the motherboard. It's a pain in the a***e to find that you can't reach the damn mobo socket after you've benn through all unplugging/unscrewing/screwing things back in - bummer! ;)

Oh yeah, if you're running an AMD chip - check out their website for a list of approved CPU's  :)

Hiya,
1st off that 300 watt psu seems ok (i assume you have a ATX motherboard   :) )
If you were going to overclock cpu etc i would suggest a higher wattage psu but 300 is all i'm running with a 2nd older AT psu

Now can you post motherboard make/model soundcard make/model even if it's onboard chip and also which make model vidcard and if it's pci or agp
Emonster 500 is that P3 500 setup ????

Have Fun

Thank you!

If fixing the IRQ didn't solve the problem then I'm gonna get that power supply I found and give it a try. (the video card is on the same IRQ as the modem)

And no, I'm not gonna do any overclocking, I'm not that good. Yet.  :) Not with this computer anyway.

Either this power supply will solve the problem or the IRQ. I'll probably end up doing both anyway.

thanks again!
