Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots Real World Training

I stumbled on this book today called Microsoft Flight Simulator X For Pilots Real World Training. I'm trying to figured out if it's worth buying it or is it another BS book.

Truthfully if you wanna learn how to do stuff for FSX I would use youtube.  What I did anyways, a lot of how to videos.  Shows you how to use auto pilot and so forth.

It takes a lot more than the book to really make things immersive. You need a good AI environment (World of AI is free) and maybe some custom upgrades so your neighborhood airfields are more realistic (accurately modeled) a good weather package like Active Sky Evolution and of course the "Vox ATC-X Deluxe" program that allows you to communicate like you do in TRW... or fly on VATSIM and so on. There will probably never be an end to what you COULD do.

I see, but what do you think about the book in particular? Does it have any useful information?

IMO better read William Kershner books.

I have not reviewed the book, but in general nothing replaces the real thing, do not get me wrong.. i.e. the on the theory side of things the more correct information you have the better...
With that said, I have used Flight Sim in the past to set up nav training etc... but as stated Nothing replaces the real thing.

While it is very true that nothing beats the real world experience the book you are looking at will bring several relative points to mind and it will give you fresh perspective on training. There are quite a few training aids available that act as onboard instructors and any one of them are worth the price. The problem as I see it is the way FSX was created with poor tower comms and communication practices that you do not want to get in the habit of using. However with the addons I mentioned already and a few of the instruction programs (and the book you chose) you can increase your exposure.

Its still only practical experience (just useful enough) and please dont ever forget that. This sort of thing is only intended as an orientation device and you will need actual hands on experience in order to accomplish anything more.

It does beat the $150/hr 'wet' time or tow fees ($10/1k or $25 minimum).

just do the pilot lessons in FSX... not the missions, but the actual lessons. They are hidden within the game though, ill post where to find them later... but they are the same ones from FS9 which were made by the King's.
