Can't Connect
« on: October 20, 1999, 08:55:00 AM »
aopen ax6b mb, celeron433, 128megs pc100ram, stb vision 2d board, monster 4meg 3d, siig sound card (yamaha chiipset), win98 1st ed., dx7.  Latest drivers for all.  oem win98 winsock, ms sidewinder 3dpro.

I loaded ah a few weeks ago.  It didnt run right.....white out problem, so I went to change the monster drivers.  System destabalized and I had to re-load windows, probably due to a bad hd, ended up losing 5 years of data off of my back up drive as a result..not happy.  Not ur fault, but started when I tried to run ah.
I got everything working again this weekend, re-dl'd ah, installed and can fly offline but cant connect.  Did connect once but got booted after the first flight and havn't been able to connect since.  I used the bbs to get this problem addressed and got a response that didnt address the problem.....get a new winsock....ms doesnt even have a new winsock for win98. Reposted that and still no response. Just for good measure I uninstalled and re-installed my windows communication suite....twice. Still no connect. I'm running AOL as a tcp/ip connect and I have ms game zone files loaded as well....dont know it there's some kind of conflict there.  Obviously, they're not running when I'm trying to connect to ah.  Using Bellatlantic.net as an isp.
I uninstalled ah using the win98 uninstall jobber in control panel, shut down, re-dl'd ah, re-installed and ah remembered all of my settings, leading me to believe that windows couldnt uninstall all of ah.  I think I've made more than an adequate effort to run your product and may even pay for it if you guys make the improvments you claim to.  I believe in supporting massive player flight simms if they're good and have a reasonable price.  I remember those huge bills from genie
Anyway, it comes down to this, I either need my connect problem addressed or I need to know how to uninstall ALL of the AH files.  If you can't get more than 40 or 50 peole in the arena at once, and that's the problem, then let me know so I can stop wasting my time on this and wait untill you get it figured out.

you cant TRY this but dont know if it will fix things for you.... War Birds has a help FAQ on connection (Sorry HT for referance to WB) I use the connection tips to a T in all but the speed limiting. I connect perfectly to ALL my games I play and see little connection difficulties. as for the address linked to it, sorry I cant remember the URL as I havent needed to go back.... if you cant find it I will try later after I get a little sleep.

Crash what does it say if anything when you cant connect. Check your password and everything to be sure. This is beta and has many bugs to work out. If nothing else try to make a new account. But if you are useing AOL forget all the above its probably the problem. If thats what you are using see if Alta Vista has a number in your area and use them instead. Its FREE

Thanx Indian,
I connect thru bellatlantic, not aol, I know better    I have aol loaded on the machine and they install their own tcp/ip adapter so i figured i'd mention it just in case ah had a problem with that adapter being installed.  I can connect to all of my other games fine.  I uninstalled and re-installed the windows communication suite just for good measure...started a new ah account, tried using two seperate modems...all to no avail and accompanied by a very poor response from hitech...too bad ;(
Game runs fine offline.  I wonder if there's a game setup option somewhere that could be an issue here.  I have ms game zone installed...will that cause a problem?  Explorer 5?  DX7?  Win98 fat32?  I dont know, and hitech isn't any help.
I realize it's a beta, but hell, when I say I cant connect and they address a joystick issue, well, ya gotta wonder.

Try pinging server see if its not isp problem . Also check your password or sign up again maybee password is corrupt. I think you can delete login.cfg and redue it (its in HTC/ACESHIGH/SETTINGS under program files). HTC is very busy been there where they work they are working out of thier own pockets at the moment so give them a chance. I try to help if possible. IDEA you use bellatlantic to login with right, do you bring up the browser to luanch the internet then run Aces High. If so go into the My computer, dial up networking and bring up the internet only no browser npw try to run Aces High. Let me know if that works.

Thanks Indain...I realize they're very busy, and I'd really like to see them succeed.
I dont run my brouser...I just connect to my isp(bell atlantic), start ah, click online, click ok to the arena. I then go to the tower, sometime the clip board is all green so I know I didnt connect, sometimes the bases are different colors so I assume I'm in.  The fly button looks pushed in, but I stay in the tower....I hit hanger button, nuthin...hit fly, nuthin.  I wait and get "host disconnected".  I've comppletely uninstalled ah, to include the cfg..(saw it there).  Didn't help.  I've also unistalled and re-installed dial up networking to insure an unfornicated winsock.  Being win98 I may have to unistall and re-install the dial up adapters in the networking folder to look for a fix, I'm not sure, but I'm gonna try tonight.
One thing that's kinda odd..when u start ah u get a grey screen with the clipboard in front, but when u hit online the bottom half of the screen goes white.
Also, when I select the video card, my choices are primary adapter(stb 2d card) and monster3d directx 5 driver.  I have to choose the monster cause that's my 3d board..I have dx7 loaded and I know ah needs dx6.1 or later so I'm wondering if this dx5 driver thing matters as far as the connect is concerned.  I am using the latest drivers available for the card, and I'm sure there's others connected using monster 4meg cards and besides, the game runs fine offline and looks just like the posted screen shots so I dont think that that's the problem.
My soundcard doesnt like the game a whole lot...in my regular front view sounds are muted...when I look left or right the sound volume noticably increases with some static..very odd.  I'm using a sidewinder 3dpro connected to the midi port of a siig soundcard (yamaha chipset).  Stick sets up great so I dont worry about it..dont know if it will affect the connect. Gonna try ur suggestions, let ya know, thanx,

Crash look for a post by jimmjet or somehting like that He had what sounds like a simliar problem. The white out is same on mine. so that not problem. Dont know where you live but you moght give em a call if you can afford long distance. I went and met all of the HTC crew they are a great bunch of people. Yuor sound card is a good quality but AH is being writen for the newer 3d sound cards Look around the Creative live value is down around 50$ now its what I use. If you still cant connect I would try to create new account, and if still cant (this will be a pain) please list every bit of hardware you use and the drivers you install with them. Might come up with something. HiTech is trying to help but its hard to do from the message board still say if you can Id givem a call. By the I Fix airplanes for a living only part time nerd (hobby).

Thanx Indian....I certainly wouldn't waste their time by calling them.  Anyway, I fixed the problem.  Re-installed my tcp/ip protocal, re-installed a 4 year old internal isa usrx 28,8 modem using an internal 28,8 pmcia driver. Configured it to connect at 9600, turned off error correction, software compression, unchecked all the other protocals except tcp/ip, yada, yada, yada.....the same stuff we used to have to do to clean up a warpy connect.  I've done it before to clean up warpy connects at times, but I've never had to do it just to get connected.  I was usin a usrx 56k external modem that wouldn't connect slower than 28,8 and apparently that was just too fast.
Thanx for all the help   After givin' hitech such a hard time, I guess I gotta sign up....at least for a little while
