I have a very new CH Combatstick, and I have to recalibrate it 2-3 times an hour. I've calibrated it in Windows, I've loaded Control Manager, but no improvement. Control Manager doesn't seem to recognize the stick, so I'm not sure what to do next with it.

If you have to recalibrate as much as you do there is either something wrong with the stick or your machine.  If CM doesn't see the stick, are you following the instructions to install both CM and the CH stick drivers? What does Windows see the stick as?  Are you connecting the stick directly to the USB port on your computer or a powered USB hub?

Yes, there is a chance that you got a defective stick, it happens but in most of the cases it is just simple user misconfiguration or insufficient power to the USB port you're using that's the problem.

I dunno what to tell ya. Windows sees the controllers, and even correctly id's them. I can calibrate the throttle and the stick in windows.

CM manager? I dunno what it does. I run it, add the devices but then nothing. I try to calibrate the devices in CM but nothing happens when i hit the calibrate button. I have Vista on this machine if that is relevant. I really don't know what other drivers there are to load. I've checked the cd's and the 1 page mini instruction sheet that came with both controllers (damn near useless). I've tried changing the usb port. I've bought a Belkin powered usb 4 way deal. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

If there is a walk through or joysticks for dummies tutorial someplace, point me to it. Right now I just recalibrate every time the plane wont hold on auto pilot.

Thanks for the help guys. More than likely this is something glaringly obvious staring me in the face, but I'm not smart enough anymore to see it (age and kids have reduced my IQ far more than beer ever did).

Do you have your trim wheels set properly?
I no these can cause lots of problems, especially if you have kids.

Here is a site from one of the members it has basic set up for CH.http://snomhf.exofire.net/.
Look under articles and downloads. There is also the CHCM for dummies there also. He covers a-lot at his site.

If you have CH you should use the CHCM for there are drivers in it for the stick {HOSTA}. I set up all commands with CHCM it is not that hard to do. The only thing I set up in game are my axis. You just need to read a little.
You are not just paying for quality but for the amazing things you can do with the CHCM. To buy CH and not get full use out of them, I just don't understand. Sure you have too read and learn something new but the reward is well worth it. Any questions and you just go to the CH HANGER and they will be answered if it hasn't been covered already.  Just my thought on the matter.
