It was on sale for $9 so I figured what the hell.

This is the one I used to have. and will still buy again. Close it and its a flashlight. slide it open as is pictured. Its a lantern. the entire thing is only 6-7 inches tall and hangs nicely from the roof of the tent.

Plus I like the type of light that it puts off over LEDs.
LEDs just put off a weird kinda light

Dred it is time to get you a new addiction.

I have a 4sevens Quartz LED light... FREAKING AMAZING. Throw like you wouldn't believe, good run-times, and lifetime warranty. Also comes with SOS, Strobe, and Beacon as pre-programmed sub-modes.

Oh, and price, it was something like $75 before shipping. The strobe is AMAZING for self defense. I have it set so I twitch the bevel (SP?) and it goes to strobe. It's bright. It's disorienting. It leaves anyone or anything coming at you unable to react for long enough for you to get away. In addition, comes with a REALLY low moonlight setting (For sneaking around the house without waking my girlfriend), a low setting, medium, high, and HOLY CRAP.

I've been using LED's for spotlighting rabbits, possums and hares for about 2 years now. I have an LED torch and Lenser H7 LED Headlamp both are awesome (and many dead bunnies and possums can attest to their effectiveness :D )

Isn't that a bit illegal?

LEDs are great. There are lots of different intensities and temps though.

Ya what he said ...

I'll never buy anything but led again. I'm an avid spelunker and have some of what used to be the best lights on the market. And for durability , run time, and now brightness led is now the way to go. We always used to take led backup lights just because of run time and you can drop them incredible distance and they still work.  Now that you can get mega lumens now they are bright enough to see a long way in a cave.

For spelunking there is no better. They run cool and draw very little energy.

I can leave all the LEDs on my Daughter's camaro on for a month and it will not draw down the battery.
