Gun Camera
« on: August 29, 2010, 05:33:20 AM »
I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'm gonna post it again. I know lots of guys film their sorties but most of the time the film comes down to one or two shots that make you save it. Sometimes its something else. What Id like is a real gun camera that would only activate when firing. Then at the end of the sortie you would have the option of saving the whole film and or your gun footage.
And before any of y'all put "Oh but you have one in the ahfilm Viewer" any one with half a brain knows that isn't a real gun camera, just takes the plane outta the picture and sets you in front of the aircraft. Now I know with all the different a/c we have that the camera is probably in different spots on all. But Id be more than happy with a universal mounting point.

                                                                                                                                                                    Thanks, Vudu

Have you ever seen any actual gun camera footage?  The filming plane isn't in the picture.

There used to be a third party "gun camera" program, sort of like FRAPS.  The only thing I found last I searched for it cost $.

A film on only during trigger pulls would be kind of boring.

It's all in the editing.

Are you sure you want just gun cam? I know you're pretty much just looking for a more convenient way to start/stop recording rather than having to deal with what it takes to start/stop recording now. Would probably be a nice option, but there would also have to be a way of turning it off...permanently if so desired.

I can't remember what it is was called but someone a long time ago made a little java app for WB that made gun camera footage, was a neat little program.  Since it was just a java applet wonder if it would still work?

Found THIS searching "Java Guncam" as well as a link forthe WB one Ack-Ack mentioned.

It sounds like a FRAPS-like thing with editing options.  Otherwise, I know nothing about it.

Yea I understand y'all but no what I'm talkin about is an actual gun cam complete the ability to hit a button and just run film when you hit the trigger(not ammo) You every once ina a while you get a good snapshot and I think it would be cool the seen an a/c suddenly pass through the picture and get lit up. but its more of something to think about then an actual need.  :D And Ill look into your link my internet runnin slow right not so Ill have to check it later. Thanks  :bolt:

I think you should look at all the options of the ah film recorder.  you can move your point of view around, close up to the target, slow it down, even look at another airplane that is within icon range of your own.

semp

look at this pictures.  not the best, but a gun camera would not be able to capture them.  also look how small my spit looks. unless gun camera had a zoom function you wouldnt see much.

pony tried to ho me and lost.

guess how many planes tried to steal my 38 kill.

and my best picture.  a 262 getting owned by my il2.

Well for all you snipers shootin at 1k and such I guess it wouldn't work well for ya but most of my engagements take place at less then 300 yds, so a camera at those distances would be just right I believe. Anyhow just puttin another angle out for folks to think about. Thanks for the feedback.  :aok
