Low FPS

First of all, let me say hello to everybody.

I run a 233/32meg/Voodoo3 2000/Vortex 2 sound card/Ms Pre Pro stick.

I get around 9 to 10 fps usualy. Doesn't matter what ship I fly in.  But, the strange thing is I get 45 FPS in the bombsite mode of the Buff.

Let me explain further.

I drop into the bombsight mode.  Screen normally is zoomed all the way out.  Sound is on, right?  There I get the same 9 or so FPS.  If I hit Zoom and page in a little till the sound quits, I go up to 45 FPS.

Is it my computer or sound code of Aces High?  Know of anyway to improve the Frame rate here at all?

Yes, I run the most current drivers on everything.  I only want to overclock my voodoo a small amount.  5mhz increments nets me 2 frames  per.

Which brings me to this question.  Is there  an advantage to people who run higher frame rates vs. people with lower ones like myself?

Just wondering.

I think this game is going in the direction of PIII's and TNT2 cards.  Upgrading computers every other year just to play newer games is out of reach for me.

Do you have a PII 233 or a P233MMX?

Hi Ronnie...working over the holidays...Job dedication..I love it!!!

AMD 233MMX <- Rated faster than the pentium

I know..bottom of the line Processor,

And great game..grphics rock..I turned off the Hirez addon that is on the downloads page, ie, I renamed it.  ground detail not crisp now and no real gain in frame rate.

It's most likely the cpu.  Drop an intel pentium 233 mmx in there and my guess is that you'd see a slight framerate increase.
You're also not helping yourself with only 32 meg ram, although AH isn't the memory hog that WB became.

If I was in your shoes, I'd probably ditch the mobo/cpu for an abit bp6 and a celeron 366 plus 64 meg pc-133 or pc-100 sdram.  You can run the celeron 366 at 550 mhz.  You ought to be able to get a package deal for $350ish...  Mow some lawns and you'll have your upgrade in no time

It's not so much it's a bottom of the line processor, it's that AMD FPU performance has historically lagged.  And unfortunately, 3D games tend to make heavy FPU use.  So yes, upgrading should be in yer future...

smitty there is a huge difference betwen the AMD and intel chipset for 3D games. I'm a diehard AMD fan but the truth is that the K6 just wont keep up with a P2 of same flavor and P3 kills it. The P3 500 should be under $250 by Christmas...if you can get an older celeron they'll over clock easily. Your frame rate may have alotto do with some of the "lag" issues you've posted about.

Actually,  rather than a upgrade of system.. since your problem seems to be sound/video related..
check and make sure your sound card is NOT sharing IRQ, or DMA channels with your video card.

If your FPS jumps when sound goes away, (ie bombsight), then chances are, something is conflicting. other hardware issues aside.
