PS Bigbob, the cost of drilling in Alaska almost outweighs the current benefit. In order to make a profit from Alaskan oil, gas prices would have to be above $4. It is in a harsh environment, you would need special equipment to first dig through the permafrost, then prevent it from melting around your equipment (causing your expensive machinery to sink into mud).

I don't know where you got the 100 years of oil from, the last estimate I saw was it could last the state of California 3 months, if that were their sole source of oil.

Then again when you only get information from one source, you tend to not know all of the facts.

I wish alaskans in the bush would have same prices as down states, seems to me that down states is farther than my village ELIM is than compared to new york or florida, then why in the hell are us alaskans paying more for gas and oil when they get it from here? OH i know now, they get it from alaska bring it to valdez then tanker it ALLLLL the way down there and refine it then bring it back up to alaska and charge us 10 times more than they paid for it. hmmm sumtin fishy there. eventually alaskans will lose our land to drilling. theres so much rules n regulations now, cant even go hunt my native food without a piece a paper saying i can hunt it. GOD i hope they stop that leak in the gulf fast. they dont need more oil in their waters, i feel bad for the fisherman and people who live there.

I say we kick the tree huggers to the side and just drill in alaska....there is a oil reservoir there that has enough fuel to feed the U.S for 100 years, but they dont wanna drill cause part of it is a "Nature Preserve"

-BigBOBCH

Damn right they shouldn't drill anymore, look at the Gulf.   The whole Ecosystem is jacked for God only knows how long.   But yeah, keep drilling.   BTW, wherever you received the "100 years" info, is completely FOS.

Do you not take into consideration that we drill at alaska and there is no more shipping required? Right there that is MILLIONS of gallons a gas every year saved.

-BigBOBCH

Whos word you taking over common sence?  There is a pipeline in Alaska that moves oil from the north side of the state to the south side.  The pipeline does not feed oil magicly from one side of the continent to the other and into your gas tank.  It will still need to be shipped down the fragile pacific northwest coast unless you want to slip the Canadians in on a fat cut of the profit (and under your plan, half through Panama or alternatively right under the Argentine nose, which should be a hoot if things keep going the way they are in So. America) rather than the middle of the atlantic or pacific to our oil refineries by mass shipping via super tankers.  Still gonna be floating on the ocean in a ship somewhere for 1-2 weeks on the way to an American refinery, but instead of cheap and under-regulated foreign tankers and crews it will likely be all North American tankers and crews... a good thing in all departments across the board except one, costs of transport and the endcost that it takes to the pump and end-user.  From there shipping, storage and processing costs remain exactly the same.

No one listens when a man like Hugo Chavez calls for an all out war against our oil industry. Now I would think he and his terrorist buds imported from the middle east will be drawing a lot more attention. Now it should be obvious why the administrations first move after the first event was to send SWAT teams to 'investigate.'

Hopefully its just a very coincidental accident.
