1LTCAP'S first run
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:34:16 PM »
in the ava. i couldn't resist anymore. i HAD to see this new map.

having heard everyone complaining about the 20k+ BnZ;rs, i launched from a base 2 sectors north of where the main battle seemed to be. climbed to 23k, and turned south.

whelp.....found the fight down low......about 10k to the deck. there were about 20 to 25 pile-its on in total, and pretty close to evenly split. i had a hell of a time finding the bad guys, 'cause i'm not used to the no icons thing.

i did finally find one, merged, and immediatly lost him. i found him again, and the fight went on for a minute or two...i had no clue when to fire, as there wasn't an icon to help me. i got lucky, and popped him....it was one of those "o bleep here he comes" kinda shots......squeezed the trigger, and looked behind me as i went over the top, to see parts, rather than the aircraft.

there was no chest thumping. i think the guy i was fighting called off two of his buddys, to have a 1-1 with me. there was no crap like there is on 200 and open channel in the main arenas. in fact, frog(i think) broke off of a disabled ta152.

the people were fun to fight with, no running, they just fought. i think there was a ground war going on too.
the map is friggin BEAUTIFUL....and get this......a dust storm...or something.......actually delayed my landing at a3. it was rolling along the ground, up to about 300 feet.

 i'll be definitely going back.

tonight, or tomorrow, when i get myself into the right frame of mind, there'll be an AAR style of report.....but for now, this is gonna hafta do.

those of you that doubt, take a chance. you don't have anything to lose, and a LOT to gain. and i am by far, NOT that good, and i had fun.

<<S>> ranger for the map, and <<S>>jaegr and crew for the arena.

I popped in there Sunday night I believe it was and had an absolute wonderful time.  Probably some of the most fun I have had outside of the SEA's in a really, really long time.

My comp won't handle either LW arena too much but that will be fixed soon I hope but the AvA was an absolutely blast.  The no eny icons and short friendly ones made for a wild time for me when I didn't have time to pull up the map and the gv fight near the river was pretty fun for a while until the wife ack got too bad that I had to leave.

Great, great map Ranger and I know that it took a lot of work and planning to get done.  My hat is off to you and the AvA staff.   :salute

i forgot in my original post..........until i watched the film, i had no clue what i was fighting.

when we merged, he went by so friggin fast, i only saw wings and camo.....and didn't even get a clear look at the camo, before he became a dot.

in it's own way, this is/was a good thing....at least till i learn to id a con by the silohette. how can it be a good thing? easy. it kept me from "over thinking" the fight.

good time. i won't be on tonight, as i leave work, to go to work........but tomorrow night...... :devil

A few of us SW's stopped in on Friday night to give it a try.  The no icon thing is tough, not just for figuring guns, but also trying to keep an eye on the con.  Had fun for a few hours though.

I'm the same as you Cap. Tried ava on friday for the first time so I could get a good look at ranger's map.  Spent most of my time in a Ju88 and had a blast. I was even able to down a hurri with those pea shooters on the Ju88. Watching all the cons incoming to my formation and not knowing friend or foe untill just outside of gun range made the whole experience that much more exciting.  As a buff driver my only complaint is a old one "wish the germans had another bomber".  Love the smaller distances on the map too. Great map Ranger and thanks for the good time to anyone in there friday evening :salute
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.
