Um, 1941 was before flight? The fort at Corregidor island had 12 inch disappearing carriage
guns as well as mortars. I believe San Francisco had a pair of 16 inch guns that they test fired in 1940-41
as well. Since bombing was started in earnest in 1916-7, I'd say you are wrong.
But you're looking at things from the wrong perspective. When were the guns at Corregidor and San Francisco
installed?
Before the advent of offensive aircraft perhaps? When the primary threat was from surface vessels?
Some of those guns dated from the turn of the century on the coasts of the U.S.
The Disappearing Guns at San Francisco were installed in 1905. Corregidor's gun installation began in 1904 and was compleated in 1914.
