Is it the 'Medal of Honor', or the 'Congressional Medal of Honor'?

Medal of Honor.

If any Congressional recognition is given, it would be 'Medal of Honor, awarded by Congress'.

They're the same thing. It's formally known as the Congressional Medal of Honor, the U.S. highest honor awarded to military personnel who go far beyond the call of duty in combat during a declared war. I'm not sure I would call it the "ultimate medal" since a majority of the recipients receive it posthumously, and none of the recipients were thinking about earning a medal when they did what they did to get it.

It is the Medal of Honor sir, Congress is only the Signing/Awarding Body and I almost puke when it is called the "Congressional" Medal of Honor.  Like our Congress deserves it's name associated with it-NOT.
Just FYI-a solider that was killed in 2008 is post humanely receiving it and there are 3 different versions of the medal, Air Force, Navy, Army.  If I remember correctly-anyone above ground that receives it-there children get to go to the Academy for free.  Also please note-If an enlisted person wears it in uniform it is the OFFICER that has to salute FIRST then the enlistee.

I hope you meant "It's incorrectly known as..." because the formal title is 'Medal of Honor'.  On the reverse of the crossbar it is engraved "the Congress to [recipient's name] and is where it mistakenly gets referred to as 'The Congressional Medal of Honor'.  There is also no "The" before "Medal of Honor", another oft made mistake by people.

So you would say, So-and-so received Medal of Honor?  You wouldn't say So-and-so received THE Medal of Honor?  Myabe say, recieved 'a' Medal of Honor?

"Medal of Honor is awarded by the President in the name of Congress to a person..."

Army veteran and can confirm that the top Army award is Medal of Honor. Media calls it Congressional Medal of Honor to give more bravada and significants to it as the average person is not aware of the importance of the medal.
