Best range = Spit VIII (8)
Best climb and speed and high alt (20k+) performance = Spit XIV (14)
Best over-all fighter plane in AH = Gay16... er sorry, I meant the Spit XVI (16).

If you're going to chase bombers, I highly suggest the Spitfire 8 due to the longer range.  The Spitfire 14 will get you there quicker but you may be rushed due to lack of fuel.

Yeah, but getting you there quicker also means you can throttle back and cruise sooner. And a full DT on a SpitXIV will get you to about 25K before switching to interals if you go max-climb and don't worry about covering a lot of the map on the way up.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

You don't need to use full throttle, you can easily catch bombers on cruise.

Spit XVI's are good, but they are a compromise in every way.

1) Speed - almost everything can catch you so you are committed to fight about 70% of all cons you see.
2) Loadout - Hispanos are truly awesome in the "giving hurt" department, but you only have 240 of them to share. as for the 50 cals - 500 rounds don't give much joy - so you have to be very sparing in ammo use - unlike many other rides and convergence is also an issue.
3) Range - Here's the catch - A tankful of fuel makes your ride wallow at anything under about 300mph.
4) Damage - very fragile - I sometimes think the oil lines are modelled on cardboard tube. One hit and you have about 7 minutes with a dirty wind shield before you become a glider.
5) Over the nose view - awful.
6) Rear View - not much better.

But they are so smooth in turns and if you come in with an E advantage you can be assured that unless you make very fudamental errors you'll retain that advantage through the fight. And the climb rate is superb against almost anything. And given the right circumstances you can turn with almost anything (within reason). I think they are the easiest ride in the game. easy is probably a bad choice - most forgiving.

The ultimate upside is that by flying only them you can embarrass your squaddies who hate the fact you always fly them but are too well mannered to mention it.

Spitfire can out-climb pretty much anything and as long as you do the right stuff and not get hit you wont fall apart  :aok

a lower ENY 109g14 can climb and accelerate just as good as spit 16 :aok
another advantage that g14 has is the 10 minute wep :aok

If it's good on paper does not mean it's good in reality. I don't think I ever had a 109 catch up to me if I did not want him to (besides the k, but I did get away from K on mk 14 lots of times as well)

G14 faster up to 20k. Climbs better just about upto 15k. Top speed difference isn't even 10mph looks like.

Try it out, it will take 109 20min to get to it's top speed. By the time 109 accelerates spitfire will be way out of range and with an altitude advantage.

The G-14 and the Spit 16 have very similar speed, climb, and acceleration.

(with the G-14 having an advantage in speed with Wep to 20k and climb with Wep to 15k.  acceleration is almost dead even)

I disagree, try testing it when you get a chance.  It will surprise you.

Considering that you have not flown a G-14 in the MA for over a year (and that was one single sortie) you should probably be the one testing things.

Nothing about either planes performances would "surprise" me.

I'm not the one confused about their performance and ability.

That sounds about right, however I don't believe HTC changed anything.

But I guess I'll give it a try, as you should try the spitfire.
