Honestly I think it's where we are headed. ABC, NBC, Fox, and so on need to make advertising revenue to stay in business.
I have to set this up so be patient with me. In my household we have me (AH junkie), a room mate who is a big WOW guy, and the Squid (my son and his friends AKA 'The Crew') who are online a heck of a lot more than we bother to watch television. After my last equipment upgrade I went for over 3 weeks without turning on a TV and discovered that the tech had wired it wrong. *shrug* I didn't really NEED to watch 'Burn Notice' as I could catch it online.
Last night I was talking to the AT&T guy who informed me that I could switch to an extremely high bandwidth package (and mines seriously quick) for less than the amount that I pay for the television service I subscribe to. So I called my room mate and the Squid in and asked them what they wanted to do. Both of them emphatically voted to dump the TV services and up the bandwidth.
Now if I can just figure out how to watch UT, TCU, and the Cowgirls, play online I'll be good to go.
