« on: September 13, 2010, 08:04:30 PM »
I just had about a 30 vs 40 battle in the middle of to carriers and an airfield and I am wondering about P4U's I am personaly a spitfire 16 and a bomber pilot but are they good at climbing, cause someone in it just cut streight up and got me in about 2 seconds flat.

F4U is not one of the best climbers, but it is not one of the worst.

The F4U-4 model has a good climb rate.

If the F4U has energy on you, he could eaisly zoom up.

I recommend you try everything first. However F4U is indeed a good plane.

I was wondering the same thing.

Sounds like you broke one of the cardinal rules of fighting an F4U: NEVER misjudge his E State.

Corsairs hide their E very well. They're very fast birds with very good E retention, and because their level acceleration and sustained rate of climb are only average at best it's very easy to underestimate just how much E one has. The end result is that F4U 5,000ft below you suddenly zipping up under your bellybutton and ripping you a new one.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
