I have yet another silly question.Would it be better and or more courteous to other players if I buy and use a mike when flying on line ? Or is it okay to communicate using text only ?

It's perfectly fine to communicate with text only, however, you'll find it much easier a lot of the time to use voice.  It's also a bit handier for bsing with squaddies or coordinating random wingman fights and the like.  Lots of guys only use text and get by just fine.

It may be cumbersome at times, but is is definitely okay. I'm using text only for 5 years now, a few others do the same.
Many squads, however, made having a mike a prerequisite for joining them.

Lots of us played Airwarrior for a long time with no vox at all, and we got by just fine.  It made me a very fast typist.

If you actually heard Lusche's hi pitched squeal you would understand why the community thanks him for using text only :)

I didn't use a Mic. for the first 3-4 years I flew.

You don't NEED a microphone, but it really is better with one.

Drop 20-30 bucks and grab a Plantronic headset w/ a built in Mic.

This is the first mic I got that hasn't broke and works the way I want it too. It was also the cheapest I've bought.
