DirectDraw Beta expired
« on: September 03, 2001, 04:14:00 AM »
Well - that's basically it, I started getting this stupid message over the last weekend. Does not seem to be doing anything else apart from being a pain - start Project IGI, hit Enter zillion of times to clear error messages, play, hit Enter another zillion times when you finish... *sigh*

I have 8.1 installed and can't seem to find a DirectDraw bit do download anywhere on MS site to "update" :(

Help?

Ì have the same problem. I already tried DirectX buster (Staga's link above), but no go. I had installed the 8.1 beta a loooong time ago, and then went back to 8.0, also a loong time ago, using DirectX buster. Everything was fine for a few months, and now those damn messages, and my rudder doesn't work anymore.

If you go to $$$.microsoft.com/directx, the only version they have available for download is the same (bit comparison on files checks out) 8.0 as I already have.

Obviously, I have greivously violated my license agreement with Microsoft by trying to actually _use_ some of their software. Shame on me.  :)

Hold on agosling - I'm trying alternative solutions  :) You can't uninstll the darn thing other then by frying the OS completely -(I'm too lazy to do that).

No Staga, it does not work - thatk you for trying to help anyway  :)

Anyhow - there were more than one beta expiring at different dates (what f***ing moron at Microsoft came up with this stupid idea and why he did it is simply beyond me) - mine died on 31 August, making me believe that it was release 579-ish...

Since every new release supercedes the previous one and it's expiration date is pushed back accordingly it is our fate now to hunt those out until 8.1 proper comes out (XP release anyone?). I downloaded latest 8.1 beta - 683 I think - and suggest you do the same...

I got it from Directx 8.1 Beta Interim 3 (0683), haven't tried it yet though - will do tonight   :)

Of course you could re-install your Windows over the already existing one. That way you dont need to install your proggies again.

Edit: Maybe you could try to use Dx-Buster and after that search ddraw.dll from your system and backup, delete those and re-install Dx7a/8a

OK, it's worked. Although it looks like 682 version, not 683 as it says on the file :)

stupid question, if it expired, have you tried setting the windows clock by a year? Most beta programs go by the system time.

Which version is this pointing to? The latest release AFAIK is RC2 but surely the full version is going to be out by the end of this week when XP is launched?

Beta 9.0 has been announced by Microsoft... Hmmm... To join or not to join? ;)
