Joystick or other problem?
« on: September 16, 2010, 11:46:34 PM »
Ive had my X-52 for about 4 years and never had one problem.  Haven't been on in two days cause had some tests and essay due for college. I get back on tonight and I noticed every so often my plane would jerk up.  Well got to the point where its happening a lot, like prolly every 10 sec or so.  It was getting very irritating because every time im on a cons six and it would happen and would mess my shots up.  Well I have tried everything, re calibrated 5-6 times in game, re calibrated in control panel, tried blowing in USB port, plugs and the ports on the joystick in case any dust.  I am curious what you guys think, could this be the game, the joystick, or something else?  Again it was totally fine two days ago (Just so happens last time on was before patch, could be this?).  When logged off that night was no issues at all.  I know its not my computer or internet as I am keeping 54+ fps.  The problem is I really don't wanna have to go buy a new joystick, to get a good quality one it is gona be 70bucks + if not more.  Have only had two joysticks in almost 8 years of playing so.

It would be hard to imagine you have a pot spiking issue as it uses hall-effect sensors.  My best guess is low voltage/line interference on the USB side of things.  Do you have something else plugged in a usb port?  Try unplugging everything but the joystick.

I also know these things can do weird things if they aren't installed into a powered USB hub.  The X52 sucks a LOT of juice and if you have a power supply getting weak, a powered hub might be just enough to give it a little more life.  You can also go into the joystick's properties and turn the LED's all the way off.. that will save a bit of power as well.

Looks like the USB port or the stick is resetting itself.  Could also be another device sharing the same IRQ with the USB port and it is not playing well with the shared IRQ.

hmm, well only things I have in USB port is my wireless mouse, my laptop fan platform under it, and when I am on AH the joystick.  I tried plugging the joystick in a different port and still did it.

Also make sure the wire that connects the stick to the throttle is completely plugged in... sometimes it can get loose and cause issues like this.

This is a laptop?  All bets are off.

How long as it been since you cleaned the dust bunnies out of it?  What OS is it running?  With nothing running, look at the task manager and check the CPU usage in the Processes tab.

I'm telling you.. these things suck a LOT of juice.  Unplug everything on the USB except the joystick and see if it improves.

You may end up needing a powered USB hub... laptops don't have much power available for USB devices on their own.

had this laptop almost 15 months and never had one problem.

Will try it though.

Tried un plugging everything, still doing it.

Would not surprise me if it was the operating system and/or its power management.  Lot of bugs there.

By the way.  It does not matter what it was doing.  You have no control over the myriad of changes the operating system will do all by itself.

What anti-xxx software do you have installed?

Um anti virus? Norton.  The power is same as always, high performance.
