No the incident that involved John Freeborn was in 1939.   The battle of Britain was not until the summer of 1940.

Battle Of Barking Creek.  Due to much confusion (and/or bad orders, or just raw nerves) John Freeborn shot down a Hurricane, killing it's pilot.   The first aircraft ever shot down by a Spitfire was a Hurricane.   sad but true.
