37mm on the P39 is not near the weapon that the 37mm on the Russian birds is.

They register the nearly same damage (16/1000, iirc).

Update on the 37mm, just flew a sortie last night.  Intercepted some B17s, was 800 out and landed 2 37mm hits on the right wimg.  really close together.   no issues for the bombers, they got in the guns and ripped my wing of in what appeared to be 3 pings......just my luck......I do have film, just do not know how to post it on here.

I have been playing both the D and the Q in mid war a lot lately.  The problem of the 37mm not causing damage is not really a problem I think.  When I have for sure seen the larger hit flash on both single and double engined planes it tends to be a sortie ending event for the victim.  Against 4 engined bombers not as much luck.  These tend to absorb more than I can land on any single target.

The 37mm on the 39's isn't really a good anti-bomber weapon in my experience either, again with the all or nothing damage model the game currently employs, coupled with the really slow rate of wire of the cannon makes it difficult to do critical/fatal damage to a single component.  When the damage model get's converted over I imagine there will be more success with the weapon.  Right now I try to lob a few rounds in from range and if I'm lucky enough to get a hit then I try to aim the machine guns on that point to finish it off before I have to break off the attack.

x1 37mm & a few .50's or 30cals to the same area will get you the effect your looking for. The p-39's 37mm cannon is kind of weak when compared to all other 37mm, sure the field guns have 37mm, but the ammo itself is nearly 1/3rd larger with more power, thus more kinetic and deeper explosive penetration. Even the 37mm single shot cannons the army used had larger rounds.

Also consider the angle of attack, it is possible for rounds to deflect a bit off of a target, and not allow for deeper explosive penetration.

Its all in the numbers, range, angle of attack and such all matter for the 37mm on the p-39 because its SOO close damage point wise for doing all or nothing. With bombers, aim for the pilot, tail's or the inner wing where it meets the wing root. You will have a fireball.

Also, make sure your convergence is set properly. If your hitting your 37mm rounds into the plane, if your convergence is set properly, your other weapons will hit nearly the same spot.
