Anybody have an OLD P3 CPU?
« on: October 24, 2001, 04:00:00 AM »
I need a CPU for my old Mainboard, it uses old technique (slot 1?) and the CPU's needed for this MB can not be bought in any stores any more, I found them in one store but they want more then 200 dollars for an 800Mhz. The MB is an "Intel 440Bx-2", does anybody have an old CPU they care to sell me?

Try eBay, there bound to be loads of PIIIs there for next to nothing. I've bought/sold stuff on eBay and so far only positive experiences :) YMMV of course...

If the mobo manufacturer has a BIOS update that allows you to configure <lower> the voltage for a Coppermine flash it and buy a FCPGA slotket and P3 or Celeron II, I'm running a Celeron II 600@933mhz in my old Abit BH-6 mobo w/o any problems. < until next week when my AMD T-Bird arrives>   ;)

If I were you I would chuck the old stuff and buy a T-Bird 1GHZ, some DDR RAM and new mobo.

The T-Bird 1GHZ will o/c easily to 1.3GHZ from what I've seen in www.overclockers.com  CPU database and total price for hardware is about what you will pay for a mid to high end P3 and slotket.

1GHZ TBird, 256 mb of DDR and a ECS mobo with SiS 735 chipset is only $175.00 including shipping, a P3 1GHZ cpu and slotket will cost around $165-175.00 and won't perform as well as the AMD.

Just in case I misunderstood...you need a PIII slot 1 and can't find one anywhere?  Well, you can get them online but the price is "about" right at $200. www.markonecomputers.com

Try www.pricewatch.com.   They've got SECC2/Slot 1 PIII 800E chips starting at $126.

Thanks guys, IMO 200 dollars for an old slobby P3 CPU is WAY to expensive when you can get an AMD 1.2Ghz for half the price.
