PCI64 sound card and Win98
« on: January 20, 2000, 09:40:00 AM »
I just "upgraded" from Win95 to Win98 SE, and my sound took a turn for the worse.  I now get static pops when I switch views, and there the stereo effects only work when looking left or right, not when looking up or back.  Also, the effect when looking left/right is for the opposite speaker to cut out complete.

In Win95 (though I'm not compeltely sure) the stereo effects were more subtle, and were produced with any view change.  Also, there were NO static pops when switching views.

Since installing AH .48, the sound occasionally cuts out completely.  This seems to happen when I climb out of a high speed dive, and the wind noise goes from loud to soft.  At the top of the climb, the engine sound diminishes with the wind noise, until I lose engine sound entirely.  Switching views a few times will restore the engine sound.

Another PCI64/Win98 player reports much the same performance.

I've installed the latest driver.  Is there something I'm missing?  The sounds were great with Win95, now they really suck.

One thing you could try doing is to turn down your Sound Cards Hardware accelration.

Go to 'Control Panel', Select 'Multimedia'then select the Audio tab. Under 'Playback' select 'Advanced Options' followed by 'Performance'.You should see a slider called 'Hardware Acceleration'.

Now reduce the Hardware Acceleration slider one notch at a time checking back until it cures your problem.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Bradburger.  Tried all the settings, but none got rid of the static pops.
