Don't you just love being able to zoom past people on steep hills?

That's usually because automatic drivers don't even know how to properly use their automatic trans.   :D  "What's this D-3 for?"  "Should I have overdrive on or off?"

i have neither the car nor access to the kind of roads that make standard fun. you can only go down so many onramps and for city driving its a minor annoyance...when it comes right down to it driving standard isn't that big of a deal anyway. its easy enough.  i figure everyone should have to take their road test in a standard.

now if i moved closer to the mountains or coast and bought a weekend toy then i'd absolutely want a standard. wouldn't want one for my daily though.

The point of the test was to use only the clutch and the gas to hold the position. yes I do use the e-brake now if I have to sit on a hill for more than a few seconds. I still prefer the clutch/gas method but after a few seconds it starts to make the bullet scar in my leg burn like hell.

why do you use the e-brake to hold yourself on the hill? it's not a "hill holder" (which some subarus used to come equipped with).

on the hill, foot on brake, clutch in. when it's time to move, then do just as you normally would on any other road.

I was involved in a hunting accident that resulted in me being shot through the upper left leg, holding the clutch pedal down for more than the few seconds it takes to normaly engage the clutch makes my scar tissue throb and burn, causing me a large amount of pain.  I can avoid this and still drive a stick with judicious use of neutral and brake on flat surfaces and neutral, brake and occasionaly e-brake for sitting still on a hill.  Pressing the clutch pedal in and out doesn't hurt, holding the pedal down does, and most the time (even on hills) I just use the brake/neutral methode of sitting still and just don't worry about the small roll back when I start, but anyone who has driven a stick for a while will agree that sometimes you get that a-hole behind you that is 3 inches off your bumper on a hill and you can't roll back without cruching the bumpers together.  Sorry for the wall-o-text but I figured I could explain my unique situation a little better. :aok
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.
