BT-5 being Raised
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:38:54 PM »
Was digging through some old bookmarks and came up with this.

I remember some interest about the T-34 that was recovered, and thought some of you might enjoy
a link.

You can really  see the Christy influence on that Soviet tank.  Amazing stuff still coming out of the old Soviet Union with all the aircraft and tanks.  Where else would a well presered 190A5, P40E, P39Q, Me109E etc turn up?

In the article the author mentioned that the engine was an old Liberty V-12 that had been reworked
by Allison, then exported to the USSR.  Very cool that after all these years they could still read the data plates.

Here's another one being raised from a swamp. It's in great condition...something about swamp doesn't let oxidation to happen so it rusts slower than in regular water.

Sorry, but it's in Russian. Still, interesting to see video even if you don't speak it.

Not so lucky is this perfectly preserved Stug III. Dug out of a swamp. It ended up stuck outside in a public park in Saratov stripped of everything and rusting away.
