CH-Pro-Throttle and Fighterstick
« on: October 16, 2000, 04:11:00 PM »
Hi!

I just bought a CH-Pro-Throttle and a Fighterstick. So far so good. I plugged it in and started the PC and at first it all was very well. I could install it as a Gamecontroller(4 Buttons, Flightstick w Trottle), and the Buttons that were programmed to behave like usual Joystick-Buttons behaved well. Only when a Button on the Throttle was programmed to create a keystroke all my ps/2-devices locked up(mouse and keyboard). The lockup came when i released the Button. So i could produce many keystrokes - i just couldnt release the trigger.
I wasnt able to change this. I had the latest software from CH and except of the characters all worked as it should. Before i had a Thrustmaster WCS Mk 2 and it worked fine. I also tried 3 different keyboards and this hard-reset stuff and so on. That reset worked - until the first number appeared - then it locked up again

I think it can be a compatibility problemwith my mainboard. It is a Gigabyte 686BX. Anyone knows about problems?

Oh, and the Stuff isnt bought new - its from an auction. But it semms relatively improbable that this stuff was sold broken. The vendor has a good reputation - and he always reacted quick and proper to my questions.

Well, any help would be greatly appreciated

thx

Sounds like sticky keys to me . CH tells you how on their web help site how to more or less get away from that .

"I wasnt able to change this"

In SpeedKeys use micro for the key input not single key , then turn down the rate that the program generates the keystrokes . It's under the "speed" heading there . Hope this helps you .

Hi!

Thx for your advice, but it didnt help.

But it seems i have found the problem: The throttle im using is a rather old version. Firmaware 1.22 and a very old serial#.

On the ch-website I read about problems with boards running at 100 MHZ. I have such a board running at 100MHZ. I hae been told that there are simple steps (removing C6 and something else I believe) to get this thing going.
If anyone has the document where i can see what to do, plz send it to me. I would appreciate.
I rely more in you than in ANY costumer-srevice. Although I dont have experience in the CH-service.

OK, thx again

I did the "fix" on my Por-throttle and it did not help. What does help is that I now completely power down the PC at the power strip because my MB puts out some kind of "keep alive" voltage to the keyboard (my numlock light is lit when PC is off). This would gum up my CH gear. With a complete power down I have not had this problem in two years.

Purzel, if I remember right the old serial number Pro Thottles required you adding a jumper wire on the PC board to fix some problem it had, and when I cut mine in half and made my "Dual Pro Throttle" I looked for that jumper wire out of curiosity's sake and it was there. I'm not sure, but you might possibly still find the info on CH's website, or a search of the web might provide some help. Or, if that fails, I could open up mine and take a pick of it and email it to ya, or tell you what pins the wire is soldered to.

ts

PS Here is a pic of my 'conversion'. Still haven't got any better pics yet, soon hopefully.

Hello!

Thx tshred and Westy!!!

Sorry westy - the power-off-trick didint work for me. Did u try it when u had the conversion already done or did it work before already? Maybe these two things only work in conjuction...

tshred: COOL throttle!!!!
Yes i would like to see which jumper needs to be closed. I have heard (as stated before) that it should be relatively easy to get it going with only minor changes.

But I still have a question: I have Firmware-version 1.22. I read that there is a version 1.23. Is it neccesary to have it or will it be enough to get rid of that condensator and to bridge the 2 pins???
Since it is no flash-thingy i suppose i would have to try to get a new chip if i need 1.23...

OK, thx for all your help - I appreciate it

Hoping to be back up soon

Both before and after Purzel. The modification didn't do much to help me

Hiyas!

Well, Westy - hopefully ill get it work at all one day ...

I will recieve the info on how to modify this thing very soon, and someone at the tech-support at ch-products told me he would be sending a new chip to me.

So now I want to know if I need the chip. The primary logic would not have to be changed i think. Will it be too much to modify this thing AND to install the chip? Will either modification be enough to work?

Well, I guess it wasnt a good idea to buy such an old throttle

OK, thx again for all your help...

I think the modification did not help because my BX440 mother board was (is) such a cheap p.o.s.    More often than not, the modification does work and you should be all set.
