The BCS Standings are compiled by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame and are based on three elements:

1. The Harris Interactive College Football Poll
2. The USA Today Coaches’ Poll
3. The average of six computer rankings

All three elements are added together and averaged for a team’s ranking in the BCS Standings. The team with the highest average will be ranked first in the standings.

For the polls, a team is evaluated by the number of votes it receives in each. According to the BCS website, a team’s Harris Interactive score is based on its points in the poll divided by its total possible voting points (if 114 voters, then 2850=114 x 25). The same formula will apply to the USA Today Coaches poll and its total voting points (if 63 voters, then 1575=63 x 25).

For the computer rankings, points are assigned in an inverse order from 1-25. A team’s highest and lowest ranking will be discarded in calculating its computer rankings average. The four remaining scores will be averaged and the total will be calculated as a percentage of 100. Here are the names of the computer rankings providers: Jeff Anderson and Chris Hester; Wes Colley; Ken Massey; Jeff Sagarin; Peter Wolfe.

so if this makes any sense as to how the BCS standings are done Oregon which is number 1 in the Harris and USA Coaches' poll with more points in both polls followed by Bosie State and Auburn is ranked number 3 in both polls, i dont see how auburn got ranked number 1 the only thing deciding whos number one is the 6 computer geeks running the show it seems THATS why a playoff system will be the only honest legit way

I gave you the reasons why.   It's in black and white in the schedules and standings.   Auburn has had a more difficult schedule (not even close) and they just knocked off a #6 team.  I'm not knocking Oregon at all, it's just they have a much easier schedule.

Michigan St. will not make it, they barely hung on as it was so I believe Iowa will emerge victorious Saturday.

But what will happen if Auburn losses? Will that put Oergon to #1 and BSU #2?  Or will MSU be place #1 if they beat Iowa?  If MSU dose not win, and MU beats Nebraska, will they be #1 or 2.  Personally, BSC will be hated more then ever if Oergon, BSU and TCU stay where they are at now while some other team, with a one lost, will be number #1 by time we get to the bowl games.

Arkansas is better than what we're ranked, we've only lost to (at the time) #1 Alabama and #7 Auburn. Heck, we only lost to #1 Alabama by 4 points because we beat ourselves. I'm still chapped about the #12 Arkansas @ #7 Auburn game last weekend. It was the poorest officiating job I've seen since the Arkansas @ Florida game last year. There were two calls in particular that showed clear video evidence that the play was in Arkansas' favor but they gave them to Auburn anyway

1st - Auburn fumbles on the 1 yardline, just short of crossing the goal line. The replay clearly shows that the ball never crossed the line and was recovered by Arkansas. The initial call by the line judge was a fumble, but after the refs came out of their little huddle they ruled it a touchdown. Upon further review, while seeming pretty conclusive from my end on the TV was ruled inconclusive on the field, giving Auburn a touchdown.

2nd- Arkansas fumbles the ball, which is picked up by auburn and returned for a touchdown. Upon further review, video evidence showed the Razorback player was clearly down before coughing up the ball. Alas, the replay official ruled it as a fumble and gave Auburn another touchdown. Even the commentators, who seemed to be in Auburn's favor the entire game, thought it was a terrible call.

Keep in mind, Arkansas came back to lead Auburn by 5 points early in the 4th quarter and was on the march to score again when the fumble/return occurred. This, along with an intercepted pass by our back up quarterback (who played excellent for coming out cold and taking over after Ryan Mallet got a concussion), killed Arkansas' momentum. I will say that Auburn's quarterback Cam Newton was outstanding in that game and deserves the Heisman. Oh, and with a final of Arkansas (43) - Auburn (65), it was the highest scoring game in SEC history.

Strength of Schedule is #26 Auburn to #117 Oregon (out of 120).   Again, I realize you're a Ducks fan (I'm a Vols fan), but I also have to logically look at it and see it for what it is.

It makes me wonder how Boise or TCU would actually fair against a football powerhouse like a Big Ten or SEC school.

I completely agree with you.  I've been a TCU fan for geez almost 40 years now but I'm intellectually honest.  Put the Frogs in the arena with Alabama, Auburn, OU, Texas, etc... and it's six five and pickem at best.  All of that said I literally despise the BCS system and, if it was that important to me, would hit the knees every night praying for a playoff system.  It will never happen but this year is shaping up nicely for me.  I don't give a rats rear end if Oregon and Boise State play for the National Championship (TCU playing either of them and winning would be golden but I'd still chuckle a LOT inside).  I just want all of the big schools either excluded or their titles tainted for leapfrogging over the no loss teams then listening to the wailing and gnashing of teeth about it.

Michigan State has one tough game left, this upcoming weekend unless I'm mistaken.  If they somehow win at Iowa, they are home free.  Well they are still Michigan State, so even in that situation they can struggle, but theoretically they would be home free.  If Michigan State wins this weekend, everyone ahead of them better play perfectly.

The rankings are a sham.  Doa playoff system and end the caca del toro.  Oh wait, the BCS makes money on this sham.

12 team playoff would solve the problems, keep bowls for less privileged teams.

Conference champions from SE C, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12 would get automatic bids to the playoffs. Top 2 non BCS conference teams automatic bid in the playoff.
Last 6 seeds goto the top teams that didn't make it.
