Regardless of how you feel about the Yanks (and I don't wanna hear it!), the Rangers played a better series, out-hitting, out-pitching, and that's what wins ball games.

I can't stand anything Philly (except the Cheesesteaks and the Franklin Museum), but being from NY can you blame me? Ok, the Yanks spent big bucks, but its relative, NYC is a big-dollar market with big-dollar bills to pay. And yes, they have an all-star lineup for the most part, but there's a bunch of 'average' players on the roster as well.

So...at this point, I don't care who wins, as long as its not the Phillies...

AND...just for the historical record...Robert Johnson was a Yankees fan...

First of all, its not a Derek Jeter jersey, its a vintage Mantle jersey, and secondly, I'm not fat...

I am kinda teary-eyed though...  :frown:  :neener:

There is no joy in Mudville the mighty Phillies have struck out   :cry

It was a good season, as a Phillies fan it was a great season for baseball, I took the family to a game ( my littleones first time at a MLB game. Phillies V Mets. Phils were loosing ( 3-2 ) up to the 8th inning and then went on a tear scoring 6 runs to win the game. Lets just say they looked like they do on XMas morning  :aok  ( sorry Treize )

One quick request for the Rangers fans and the Rangers Club, Could you please make sure that the Rangers "Put a whoopin" on the Giants!!

It's not that I'm not a Yankees fan.  It's about being a baseball fan.  Please let me explain.  Some background if you will.

I've been a baseball fan for over 50 years.  I've been fortunate enough to see some of the greatest play the game.
Living in the Youngstown Ohio area I could go see the Indians and the Pirates play ball frequently.
Consequently I had two favorite teams (Indians slightly ahead) of the Pirates.  I'm a fan of the Tribe and the Pirates.
One on the National, one in the American.

When going to Forbes field I saw, Mays, Clemente, Richie Allen, Koufax, Drysdale and Aaron and Mathews to name a few.

When going to Municipal Stadium I saw the likes of Mantle, Carew, Yaz, Kaline, Cash, Palmer, Brooks and Frank Robinson etc.

Today in my humble opinion baseball is NOT what it used to be.  I'll give you a few reasons.

There used to be only 8 in the American and 8 in the National.  Only the best of the best played. Now....sheeesh.  Dilution to say the least.

An example of what I mean.  In the early 50s the Dodgers and Yanks hammered it out for the best team in baseball.

I could give you the llineups of both teams but google it if interested.

The Dodgers at the time had a minor league affiliate in Baton Rouge I believe, could've been New Orleans though.

On that minor league team was a ballplayer named George (shotgun) Shuba.  Every year Shuba would hit approx 30 or more
homeruns, hit well over 300 and lead the League in RBIs.  Yet.......he could not make the major league team!  There wasn't room!
Who was he going to replace?  Snyder? Furillo? Robinson or Amaros?  Shuba didn't come up to the major league team until he was in
his mid 20s!  The Dodgers just couldn't fit him on the roster because of the talent on the roster already.

Now.....they've lowered the mound (69) built bandboxes for stadiums, brought kids up that aren't ready or are ready because
how many now 30? 32 teams?  Designated hitters?    Arghhhhhhhhhh they've ruined my game.

Give me again 8 in the American, 8 in the National.......no steroids.....no designated hitter.....players that actually KNOW how to bunt
and SACRIFICE.

When I went to Forbes Field.....I would get chills up and down my spine.  I knew baseball was played there since 1909.  It however is no longer
there...replaced by a bandbox concrete bowl in 1970.  I knew Honus Wagner played shortstop on that field.  I knew the 27 Yanks played
the Pirates on that field for the World Series Championship.  Big Poison and Little Poison...look it up.  I knew those that took the field there
knew how to play the game as a team sport not for individual accolades and I'll be damned I'll set the record anyway that I can including
cheating.

So ya......The Yankees failed....The Yankees failed.....give A-Rod and Pettit more steroids......they lost.

Pass them out to the rest of the team.  There are few....far to few REAL baseball players these days.  What a pity.

Go to the Hall of fame if you want to see them.  You won't find them on the field during this world series.

 :rofl

Because I know the Giants, and didn't expect them to be able to win in Philly. :)

I've never been much of a baseball fan. My wife is a lifelong Rangers fan. I used to hate summer because every night she was watching the Rangers on TV and it seemed to take forever for football season to come back around. I have to admit the last three years she's managed to get me to take interest. I was happy to see the Rangers win the ACLS for her sake. I hate to see the kind of loyalty my wife displays go un rewarded forever. So for Judy's sake...

Great post Hajo,

In all honesty the best baseball i watch is my sons little league team. I wasnt even in to baseball until my son started playing 3 years ago. Its a great league, with great coaches and parents. None of the "must win" parents if ya know what i mean.

My boy threw a no hitter this year, and the opposing pitcher and coach made it a point to come over to my son, shake his hand and congratulate him after the game. 2 games later my boy hit a kid with a fastball ( accidential of course ) and my son called "time" to the umpire, got off the mound, walked over to first base to make sure the kid he hit was ok, and appologised. He did this all on his own, and was not told to by anyone to do it.( actually we were all wondering what he was doing )

This is the kind of sportsman ship that the youth in this league are learning ( I just used my sons actions as an example, but i could name dozens of other things that happened this year that were similar), I hope that this next generation of pros take this with them to the big leagues.
