Skin Problem
« on: November 18, 2010, 05:09:01 PM »
No, not Acne.

After enabling Auto-downloads, I got this message half way through the night. I had downloaded many skins before, but thought it would be best for me to report this.

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

The read-only error may be on your computer and the skin downloader can not write the new skin to a file that is marked as read-only.

Try this for Windows users:
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your Aces High folder.  Right-click the skin folder and select Properties.  Under the General Tab in the Attributes area, if the Read-only is checked or checked but grayed out then all or some of the dot res files are marked as read-only.  If it is checked, left-click the Read-only check-box until it is clear and click the Apply button.  A confirmation widow will open, select to apply changes to this folder and subfolders and files and then click OK.  Click Ok or Cancel to close the properties window.  You should be good to go from there.

still don't know how it happened (how the folder got checked to read-only), but as machnix just posted, that is the solution.

The message means the game could not write the skin file to your hard drive.  One of the most common reasons is the file(s) are marked read-only.  This is usually due to some security software on your computer.
