whats a good laptop for...
« on: November 04, 2001, 05:36:00 PM »
Hiya all,

Like to get some input which is a nice laptop to play games and video editing. A laptop that I can use on the go and at home.  Will be using it mostly for enterianment purpose not business.  Like to get on the web while driving cross country.  How or what equipment I need to get online to view email and websites while away from home. Any laptop out there that can handle games too??  Sorry about all these questions like to get the right one before i pull my wallet out.

Thank you in advance.

Bash

The only laptops currently available that can handle any gaming are from Dell and Toshiba. Both feature GF2Go chipset in slower SDR memory (16MB) and faster DDR (32MB) versions.

I have a PIII 1GHz/128MB/GF2Go 32MB Dell Inspiron 8000. 3DMarks with 21.83 beta detonators - 2020. I run WB3, AH and IL2 on it - all smooth and flyable with USB Precision Pro.

I have heard that ATI has released or about to release some kind of "mobile" solution for laptops but I have no idea whether it's true and what the driver support is likely to be...

But going to EuroCon next year is a much "lighter" proposition for me now :D
