Something Weird - Suggestions?
« on: November 05, 2001, 11:43:00 PM »
Ok - something weird is going on.  I have been complaining about a loss of FR in this new patch 4.  I was getting about 60-70 otd in a P38, now about 40.  I assumed it was just thew new patch.

But, I noticed something.  No matter what my settings are with my video card, I get the same damn frame rate.  1280 or 1024 res ... FSAA 4*4 or FSAA disalbed, V-Sync on, V-Sync off - no matter what I try, the FR do not improve (or go down with 4*4 FSAA).  Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks for info/help!

It's definitely something related to your video card then.

I don't know GeForce cards though, and until I buy when (not likely anytime soon)- I can't help you with that issue.

Only thing I can figger is what I sent you in e-mail (did you get it? about refresh rates)

What interface are you using to change the settings? Try a GeForce Tweaker program?

I use Rivatuner myself, though I doubt whether that would change anything for you.

Try removing your current drivers and going to "Standard VGA".  Then reboot, and use detonator destroyer (assuming you are running Win9x) to rip out every last trace of the detonators and the registry settings that go with.

It could be some rogue registry settings or duplicate entries that are causing you problems.

Also, when you are done cleaning all the drivers out, download the 7.78 detonators and try those.  They are the most stable of all and the best choice for trouble free operation in all the nVidia cards save the GeForce 3 in my experience.  If you are on Win2k, go with the 7.58's instead.

Hiyas,

Thanks for the info guys.  I tried that Lepht, and it seems to have given me a little bit back, but not quite all the way back.  Getting about 55 in the tower now.

Thanks, any other suggestions?

Just one.  Turn off the framerate counter.  Seriously.  As long as the game plays smooth, there are no graphical problems, and it looks good, who cares?  It's far more important that it's stable and works properly than it is to get the last 20 fps out of it.

Besides, I can't stand that icky green writing on my screen.  I can't remember the last time I turned that on.

the rest may be just the latest patch. I don't think many if any of us are where we once were as FPS goes..

With respect to video drivers, it's a good idea when resetting to VGA to shut down in VGA mode, and only then install new drivers.

Umm, at the risk of sounding stupid, make sure you have the framerate cap set to unlimited when looking at framerates.

If you have the cap on, you'll never get high framerates.. If I set the cap to 60 I get around 45 fps in counter. If I set it to unlimited it hovers from 75 to 85 inflight.

And thats with geforce 2 mx200.
