It has to have gobs of ammo
It has to have a spare engine
It must be good digpile bait

Couldn't have described the B-25 better myself  :)
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

My plane's gotta turn. Favorite is the Zero and Spit IX. Used to fly the Hurri a lot before switching to Zeke. Occasionally fly some of the American planes but just can't get used to the lack of handling. Reminds me of the old muscle cars from the 60's and early 70's. Big and heavy with lots of horse power but could only go in one direction, straight. Give me a turn fighter any day.

I dare you to turn-fight that Spit vs. an F4F or FM-2.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Speed...I don't do the speed thing well so I choose the slower type of planes
my staple is the Ki61. I take up the P40E on occasion also. I do occasionally fly some of the others but once I get into those faster planes things don't happen so well  :lol :lol

for base defense...when things are really bad(as in well capped/extreme numbers) spitV and as of last tour the LA7.

I treat all planes as chess pieces and pick a plane that matches the situation well.  To do this I look at the map and see what would be affective given what flight options available.  For instances, if going to an enemy base pick a plane that is more rugged (ACK survivable) and has better than average speed.  Example: FW190F or P-47x

This can change if we have air superiority over a base of course.  There might be an N1k vulchfest in place.   :O

Another for instance might be in going against a horde, long engagements will probably get you picked.  So I pick a plane to match the tactics to survive the situation.  Boom and Zoom = survive in this situation many times.  Perhaps a P-51 or 190d

Other times I fly just for pure fun.  To me the funnest thing is shooting down perky planes in average planes.  :)

dont underestimate the American Iron's turn rates. F6F turns quite nicely. P51s turn VERY nicely at any speed over 250 and somewhat nicely in speeds below that :aok

The plane must be powered by a piston engine and it cannot suffer from torque.

It has to be an American plane for me first of all. I perfer the 51 as it is IMO the best all around plane in the game. It has great range so fuel concerns are usually not a problem. It carries enough ord to take out any hanger in the game. It has the speed to dictate most fights. The visibility from the pilots seat is 2nd to none. Six wing mounted .50 cals with plenty of ammo. The best selection of skins in the game. It's a beautiful aircraft and the sound of the air whistling through the intake makes the hair on my neck stand on end. It's easy to fly, outstanding in a dive and it has the ability to use a notch of flaps at high speeds.
Lighten up Francis
