Saving mapped controller/key settings? Location?
« on: December 09, 2010, 12:00:24 AM »
Hi Folks....

Been a while getting back to AH2 and have been spending the afternoon setting up my controller profiles within the game.

For some strange reason when I started AH2 again...the controller maps that I did for my throttle and joystick are now gone.

Can someone point me in the direction of the file so that I can save it for the future if this happens again?

Thanks!

:)

Save the "settings" folder somewhere. It contains all of your views, controller and other preferences.

Local Disk (C:) > Hitech Creations folder > Aces High folder > settings folder

Well folks,

I dug out my old computer and powered that puppy up!  It was retired 2 years ago so it was covered in dust bunnies....LOL!

I found the old aces high folder and copied the settings folder and will try to put that on the new computer running AH2.  Hopefully this will get things closer to the way that I had it.

I think that I may have to find the control center software that I had used before.  I was hoping not to do this but have not been able to get the controller (Throttle) to go into the other modes.  I had this setup previously so that I could hit a button and I would be in GV mode.  I am sure it has to do with mode toggle but not working out so hot.

The next and final step before returning to the ONLINE Skies is to get my VOX set up again.  I forgot how to test this in offline mode and will spend some time searching....but if anyone knows the trick to test it offline I would be in you debt!  :salute

You can use the modes that AHII gives you, mode 3 and 4 are available as mode 2 is for GV/ptboats.

You will need to assign a key or button to switch modes but after that you can program a button to function as 3.

all you need do is program any button in mode 3 and or 4,it will work as assigned in mode 1,switch to mode 3 and will do as programed then switch back to mode 1.

If you need further assistance in this, contact Ghosth,I know he uses this setup and can likely help you if needed.

Thanks Morf,

This is a royal headache for me.  I recall the hours I spent getting AH set up years ago and now it is just as hard. :(

I am not entirely sure if I have to use the Controller Manager software (I used to on the old computer) and for the life of me I cant figure out how the heck I set it up.  I have spent the day trying to get this up and running to no avail.

What I don't want to happen is to go through all of the pain and suffering setting it all up to only have the settings go away.  I have made a copy of the settings folder and have that saved to disk in the event that I have to reinstall things.

I will try and give Ghosth a PM and see if he cant help me out.

Thanks for letting me know!

Cheers :)

 Your welcome Gut.

If you have time,I should be in the TA tomorrow afternoon and will gladdly help you setup the controls.

It's much easier to do in person, well online together,as opposed to trying to explain with text, once you program the first button, the rest are easy...... :lol

  Easy for me to say....Eh!

Thanks Morf!

I will do my best to be up tomorrow!

Quick Question:  Any advantages to using control manager with CH products vice using the in game setup?

I am going to attempt to reconfigure everything in game another time and make another backup of the file.  A day spent trying to get the controllers up and running is getting old.....LOL!

Cheers

Yes, CM lets you use the full potential of your stick by being able to program it how you want.  For example, with the Pro Throttle you can use CM to turn the mini-stick into a seperate throttle or even make it a dual throttle or even an 8-way hat switch.

Not really any advantage either way, except, the software may allow for programing that the game doesn't.

I have an X52 and there are a couple of buttons that AHII doesnt recognize but I could program with the software.

It's a matter of choice and ease of use,I prefer not to have the software working in background as it's 1 less process that my CPU has to deal with. Also the AHII interface is a simple way to configure my joystick, point and click so to speak.

 PS: exactly as AckAck said.

Hi Ack Ack,

Long time no see!

I have been working out the kinks on the control issue (operator cobwebs...LOL)...and have the basics of it down now.  I am electing to go with the AH button config for now.  In the future I may go back to CMCC but it was more frustrating than just coding each of the buttons.

The next thing for me to do is get online!  I am going to give it a shot tonight and see how things fare.  Ghosth PMed me and hopefully we can link up in the TA!

Morf....if you are up tomorrow I will look for you as well.

I am not sure if I can get the ole' handle back but will give that a shot!

:)

EDIT:  WHOO HOOO!  Got it up and running and things are working pretty well.  Have had a few minor bugs but kind of have things going fairly well!

Vox is working and I remembered how to test the settings (rudimentary to see if it works) by doing these things:

Tune the V channel to your Handle when in the training arena.
Then just transmit on Vox.
If you are in the OFFLINE mode then do this:
When in the tower...pull up your radio and in channel V just type in "SERVER"....then when you transmit on VOX you will hear yourself!  Nice way to see how others hear ya!

There doesn't seem to be any major differences to the core of the game since I left a couple years ago so that is an awesome thing getting back in the saddle.  Morph and Ghosth I will definitely take you up on the TA thing tomorrow if you can.  Still looking to configure the controllers so that I can truly remember how to fly efficiently.

I honestly cant recall if I set up trim before on the throttle but time will tell if I need to.

Great to be back!

CH Control mapper and getting a new stick! (thoughts?)
« Reply #11 on: December 12, 2010, 05:56:42 PM »
Hi Everybody....

Well I have been able to get the CH Pro USB Throttle, CH Pro USB Pedals, and the spare Logitech Extreme 3d Pro  joystick working fine in AH2!

I have flown a bit in the TA and a bit offline getting the buttons mapped but I sure do miss all of the functionality that I had when flying previously.  What I have found frustrating is that my "muscle memory" recalls the things that I had done with the throttle and MSFF2 after flying for so many years, but I cannot get the hats programmed within AH2 like I had with my CH Control Manager before

Going to spend some time trying to get the CH Control manager figured out again.  I miss not having the ability to be able to do the things I used to do such as opening map, zooming in and out, toggling icons, damage, zooming views etc.  While I have been able to map these to another "mode", I would rather be able to save them for a Bomber mode and be able to jump to gun positions and have a GV mode as well.  Right now in order for me to get the zoom on the map, have the other functions working (that I am used to) has me cycling between modes and essentially wasting profile space.  Make sense?

I have also found that the Logitech stick is NOT as accurate as my FF2 was.  There are some apparent spikes it seems at the extremes and very rarely within the middle travel throws as well.  But I cannot complain as it has served as a backup very strongly in the past and will continue to do so!

I am going to take the plunge and get a CH Fighterstick because the MSFF2 while still a good stick is not working within AH2....works great on the old computer with another flight sim but does not work in AH2 on either PC at least that I can see.

I spent last night looking at all the new HOTAS setups out there and man there are some AWESOME new things since I was last shopping for them.  Going with the CH Fighterstick would keep all of the controllers from the same company and I can get the CH Control manager to work with them all.  First mod will be the one posted here on the padding at the bottom of the stick so that I can reach the top hat...LOL!

The Fighterstick has good reviews and I know a bunch of you are flying with it.  I have medium hands so it will take a bit of getting used to but the functionality of it looks solid.  The X65 looks insane (with a pricetag to boot) the G940 is even MORE insane with an even HIGHER price tag so for now they are not serious considerations.  Spending 100 seems to be ok with me as opposed to spending the 3-500 on those monsters!

Better to get up and running solidly and then when those drop in price perhaps next Christmas I would consider them.

Thoughts???
