You asked me to post results of my upgrade. Although I'm not finished with trying different drivers for the Vid card, here's some observations:
Old system:
PIII-550
256k PC100 memory
Creative Labs TNT 2 Ultra-32 meg card with 6.50 drivers:
1024 res. using Aces High benchmark:
26 FPS
Notes: Choppy FR flying in main arena thru smoking fields, FR about 15 in and around CV.s
Upgraded video card with old system:
PIII-550
256k PC100 memory
GeForce 2 Pro-32 meg with Detonator 7.52 drivers:
1280 res. using Aces High benchmark:
32 FPS (Forgot to check 1024)
Notes: Vastly improved flying in main arena thru smoking fields, about 23 FPS in the smoke, FR about 18 in and around CV.s
Upgraded video card and Chip/RAM (New system):
PIII-800EB
128k PC133 memory
GeForce 2 Pro-32 meg with Detonator 7.52 drivers:
1280 res. using Aces High benchmark:
45 FPS (Forgot to check 1024)
Notes: Vastly improved flying in main arena thru smoking fields, avg. 30 FPS in the smoke, FR about 27 in and around CV.s
Notes: Chip upgrade didn't cost me anything but the PC133 Ram required for a 800EB was $45.00(128 megs) and new sound card was $49.00(For some reason, old SB16 wouldn't detect the analog rudders anymore, SBLIVE solved the problem.
I not only improved FR from 26(1024) to 45(1280), but I am using higher resolution too!
Thks again for all the help on this board, and this community, I learned alot and have conquered yet another hardware task I haven't done before.
Only one hurdle left, attempting to replace the MB and Hard drive, but I will wait til next year before asking questions on this.
<S> ALL!
