A somali, according to the statistics they're the least integrated group of "immigrants" over here in Europe (immigrants quoted, since only a few have immigrated to europe for work as the official reason; e.g. in Finland there's 10 000 somali speakers, but less than hundred have applied immigration permit for work - most are here with humanitarian permit or united with their alleged family members, and only a fraction have been officially recognized as refugees. The ones united with their family have apparently risen from dead, since the humanitarian immigrants have usually told the officials that their family died in Somalia, but a year or two afterwards they're applying immigration permit for their family members). So far they haven't been into explosions on european soil, but there's been many cases of dead somalifighters carrying european passports in Somalia, Irak and Afganistan. They're also sending alot of money to Somalia, but nobody, officially, knows what happens to all the money.

If you read the article he was a naturalized citizen, even attending college. Makes you wonder why he would attempt this, looks like he had a lot going on for him. But as per the bomb, for those that did not read the article... it was all set up by the feds, all a ploy to unveil whether he would do this or not.

I know Im a real jerk in the game but this kid is such an Ahole, I wish they would just execute him. I hope someone kills him in prison, so we dont have to take care him the rest of his life. I've been fightin for my disability for over 3 years now, and this waste of life is gonna get more out of the govt then me. Im pissed off, especially when my ills come from Iraq the first war. Sometimes I have to wonder how much of this kind of thing was actually set up by the alleged terrorist. The FBI pretty much made this entire 'attack' possible, gave him all the supplies necessary (albeit duds obviously). Did they give him the idea to do it in the first place? Little PR bump?
From the BBC report I saw they started correspondence with him when they intercepted emails between him and a Pakistani man... from the CNN article

This leaves the question... how serious was he about actually doing anything until the FBI came and gave him a nudge, means, and all the supplies he could need?

I'm with Motherland on this one. The Feds can only catch the ones they setup. Meanwhile the media calls it a thwarted attempt when it was setup by the feds themselves.

It baffles me to no end that the people continually fall for these gimmicks.
