Joystick is definitely the betterpath. I started with a mouse, I felt like I was good but I was only bnzing. Joystick also eliminates the need for the H button : )

Although I have been proved wrong by (????) who only uses a mouse to play, I still feel a stick is the way to go for most every new player. Buying a cheap one will not last long here and will get you ok results. Buying something like a Ch Products Combat stick or better will last many years and you will never regret purchasing the performance their line of products can offer you.

Asking whether stick verses mouse is better is like asking is hand better than woman or is a steering wheel better than reins or should i use toilet paper vs. leaves...

Well apparently I'm a leaf-toting, hand-loving sleigh driver, cause I've flown with my trusty mouse/keyboard for 4 years.   :aok (on a short hiatus, at the moment)

Saitek ST-290 Pro, Wal mart $19.95 if they still make it. Mine is six years old and works fine.

CH products are great, but there's always the chance someone might not be completely enamored with this game for the next decade.  Better to spend a small amount and see if your head still has hair in a month ;)

Good advice Vudak.

And the ST-290 was supposed to have been a good cheap starter stick
