MS Sidewinder 2 FF - FF no worky :(
« on: December 09, 2010, 11:03:07 PM »
The stick is detected in all inputs , windows detects the FF.. it works fine on other games.

But in AH2 the FF just... seems to be disabled. All settings in AH for FF are on, to max.. the FF of the stick works on other games so...  :headscratch:

I havent been able to play in years here... wanted to try the WW1 flying. But without FF enabled my stick is just limp; the thing uses the FF to center itself through a motor so if FF is not on the stick just flops around like... well...  :joystick: :old:

suggestions?

so... no solution then?

Can HTC confirm this joystick is not compatible with AH2?

(or does anyone have it up and running with FF active?)

People use it in AH but be aware because of the outdated crappy drivers for your stick, you're going to see a frame rate drop when you use the feedback in AH.  Kazaa uses it or at least used to so he might be able to tell you how to get the feedback enabled.

Mine works just fine. It took an hour or so to map and figure out why this or that didnt work, but got it all figured out, because Im also using an X-52 throttle quadrant with it.

The mapping isnt a problem. Like I said, the stick does work in the sense that it detects all the inputs (x,y,z,swivel stick rudder, throttle) but the force feedback just does not work.

Interesting thing is, when in windows the FF on the stick is definetely enabled. You touch the stick's sensor (it has an infrared sensor on the handle to detect when you put your hands on it) and the FF motor rights the stick to center position.

Start AH2 while having 1 finger on the stick pushing it back causing the sensor to keep the stick centered via the motor (you feel the motor trying to center stick rather strongly)... the FF works during the main menu, works during the login process...

... but the moment you enter arena the motor switches off.

What are your force feedback settings in Aces High?

Tac,

I too just got bitten again by the AH bug after being gone for a couple of years and asked a similar question about the FF properties of my MSFF2 stick.  Same symptoms as you have....every axis is seen but no FF.  Went through the same FF permutations within AH.

Fortunately I had a couple of "backup" sticks laying around the house and am using a Logitech one now to get me back in the air.

I tried another MSFF2 (this one has the hat almost worn out....LOL) but same things on it as well.  Windows Vista it works great with all FF but not in AH2.

It kind of bums me out because I really loved the MS sticks.  I have tried the CH sticks and found them a bit to bulky for my tastes...love their throttle and pedals are fine but the stick was just too much.

If I figure anything out I will let you know!
